beach cleaning machine

worthy

New member
where i do a lot of my beach and water detecting, in spain, the dry sand gets cleaned every night with a large beach cleaning machine. does anyone know if this removes the coins and jewellery from the dry sand - if so ,what a good job that must be!!!

I dont want to drive the thing i just want to clean it out LOL I dont know You think it Would get something??? I just wanted to get you back ot top, I want to know too,
Mickfin,

We met a guy driving one of these here in Australia on the beach of course,he stopped to talk to us and he said what are you two looking for? i have it all what do you want mobile phone ipods or what. After he left i detected his truck tracks and did find coins and the best bit was all the junk was gone so there you go but i hope your machines are the same, if i see him again i will ask if he has a magnet installed.

Cheers Maureen..

Thank you Thidbornau 4R your reply, What dos your screen name stand for??? or mean, Mickfin, My name is Mick and Hucellberry Fin was my Hero,

I do alot of beach hunting as well. I allways see those infernal machines out there. One day I stopped one of the drivers and talked to him. My main goal was to see exactly how they worked.

The "comb" is only a belt that spins towards the sand as the driver pulls it. On the belt are rows of thin rods about 2"or 3" apart that catch trash.

I dont see how it could possibly catch any coins. It would have to get one of the rods right in a ring to pick them up. BUT it looks like it would pick up a necklace with ease.

I also asked the driver how often he finds stuff. He said he NEVER looks. That he just dumps it when he is done. But after talking to me he said that he would probably start to check.

They can however loosen the top 5" of sand to let objects sink deeper.

I have found many coin in the path of a beach comber. So dont fret and good luck

Thanks 4R your Info Fred, Mickfin

I'm in Spain too and those damn new beach machines don't even leave the pulltabs, there are 2 types, the rake type that only take the bigger rubish but the other ones flip everything in the top 10-15cm onto a chain mail belt that only the small objects like the 1 and 2 cents fall through, you have to get there before they start. Everything collected now goes to a private recycling plant where they select everything for recycling, one of the drivers told me they get a second wage from the coins and good stuff found, and said he would do it for free just for the finds they get. Since the new machines started i'm getting about 60% less than beforehand

Beach cleaning machines - I tend to avoid beaches that use these but have on occasion put in an hour or two. They do miss targets, but probably your best bet is to actually watch these beasts in action: Look for where they turn at the end of the sweep, some machines will have a tendency to drag some stuff to the end of the sweep - that's a good place to start hunting, just where they make the turn. Note how close they go to the sea (tidal area) - usually you get a good chunk of sand as they don't want to get to close to the water. Also the beach edges and any natural obstacles that they can't get too close to.

Sounds like the Spanish have better beach cleaners than in the UK though...........

These things even perfume the sand with a disinfectant as they go

This is the old type
This is the new method

Worthy did i get your post going HOOA!!!!! Kered Thanks 4R the Info also, Mickfin

hi guys i feel i have to answer these posts ,as our/my beach has one of these gadgets grooming the beaches in the area, i know the driver well and he dumps the sand and small items down the beach for me { as in this country it is illegal to remove any sand from any beach] and i go and detect the dump piles i have not found many coins in the piles but what this thing does is to smash any thing that is dropped the day before, eg chains watches one guy i saw was digging in the one spot for an hour he found these pandora bracelet charms he had five of them ,when i met up with this guy he told me he got over $135.00 for one charm and he had four left.lucky bugger

thidbornau cool, So your brothers screes name in mifkfinn???? Mickfin

Beat the cleaning machines, Try a TDI or GPX 5K at the beach. Only Problem may be the china man with the tin hat that complains.

Sorry to disagree, No need for the TDI to beat the cleaner machines, any detector will hit the targets they get, the thing you need to do is get there first and work the area fast. The deeper items will still be there at a later date once the season finishes. Although the TDI and GPX are good machines they would be well outclassed by most at shallow(2 - 4") fast coinshooting with the limited discrimination, a bit like competition hunting where the F75 for example excels, the tesoros too especially with the 18"cleansweep coil even the Ace 250 would give them a wopping.
