Now that the winter has it's grip on the NE US, I'm thinkin of puttin the Explorer away untill warmer weather comes back. How should I store the battery ???
Run it out (of charge) and set it aside or give it a full charge and set it aside ???? For storage and longevity of the barrety what is the best way to put it away ?????

I fully charge the battery and take it out of the detector before I put it away for the season, then I will recharge it again in around 2 months and before I use it in the spring i will fully charge it too. Never had a problem yet and you do want to make sure it has a good charge before you put it away for the season so the battery dont go dead and leak.

From what I've read on NiMh batts, you should fully charge them before storing. I'd suggest storing them out of your detector in case they leak.
When you go back to running, you might notice the first couple times that the batts drop out quicker than they used to, but after a couple charge/discharge cycles, they should return to normal. If your first hunt will be all day, I'd probably do a full discharge overnight with them in the machine and turned on. It will shut itself off when the batts are dead. Then you do a full charge for the recommended number of hours and it should run all day without any problems.
Attached is a link to a site that has good info about batteries. Scroll down to NiMh and give it a read.

This is my first storage year for me and the EX2. By removing the battery for the storage time will the programs I have saved remain in the system?

Dang, that's a good question!
I think it has NV- (non-volatile) RAM storage, so it should keep it forever. I don't recall seeing any memory backup type batteries inside.
To be sure, you might want to go through all your settings and write them down. You won't be able to save any s1-s6 patterns, so you might want to sketch how it looks or take a digi-pic of them.
I probably won't sweat it since I usually hunt wide open in IM-16 and can usually get out at least once every couple months in the winter. That, and I power it up in the shop and let it sniff coins once in a while so it doesn't forget what they are!

I use the settings you once described in a post - IM-16, Audio 2 etc. for non trashy areas (they work great and we swing it like a weed whacker) and factory presets for trash with a tweak on sens and threshold so I should have no problems if lost.
I like your idea of letting it sniff a coin or two this winter so it remembers what they are.
Thanks and Happy Holidays

Looks like you stumped the panel....I know Whites say for up to 10 yrs. but can find no data on the Explorer. If you have a bunch stored time to get some copies of the User Preference sheet and write them down..Agree about removing battery to protect unit itself..Surely a nice feature and used by many that hunt in varied conditions and varied aspects of the hobby...
