Batteries And MXT:

Jules,

I have got a different pair of headphones now. Did have the cheap Koss brand and now have Gray Ghosts. Will see what happens when the weather is better to get out there and detect. Yes, have to get more of that clad to buy more batteries..lol. I'm wanting to invest in rechargeable batteries once again. I'm intrigued to see what happens with the new phones also.

Thanks all,
Nancy

If you are using standard Hi Fi, Stereo type they are usually 8 ohm and I'll bet the speaker is also 8 ohms. No gain in battery life there.

The MXT manual states you should use at least 60 ohms. Higher is better. Better because besides less battery drain you will also pick up the low tones better.

As stated elsewhere in this thread, get a pair with individual volume controls and a limiter circuit to cut out the loud blasts without affecting the normal or low volume hits.

You should also either verify they will work with the MXT or that they provide a switch to change from mono to stereo. This switch allows them to work with any MD. All detectors are not all the same.

I use the SunRay Pro with my MXT and really like them. They fit well. I can wear them all day without getting sore ears. This can be a problem if you wear glasses. There are other good ones out there.

If you are very fortunate you may be able to find a dealer or other detectorist with various brands of good headphones that you can try on to see how they feel. Most of us have to read up on them, make a selection, and hope for the best. Comfort and feel are very subjective.
