Banned From the Explorer Forum!

Erik in NJ

New member
Well it looks like I have been banned from the Explorer forum - even though I've broken no forum rules that I'm aware of....looks like if you disagree with the moderator or try to engage in spiritted debate to try and help some "see the light" you're out. I'm not even sure if I can post to this forum -- though I'm going to have to re-evaluate whether I want to participate on FindMall at all -- I've been a member here since 1999 or so (have changed my user name once or twice)....not sure that I agree with the new heavy-handed approach to forum moderation. There's also a definite clique developing over there which I really can't stand! :puke:

Hang in there Erik, lots of people enjoy your posts. Hope you get it straightened out and dont sweat it, just post over here!

Let's get something straight, the moderators of the forums are in charge, and their job is to try to read/answer the post on their forum. You have seem to take offence to that. From what I have read from you, it's very argumentative. You appear to have more of a interest to be arrogant against the moderator than talk about the detector. I read one post made by the moderator that you took to arguing with him as to him doing a test for you he didn't want to do. So don't hand me that spirited debate BS.

My suggestion to you would be to talk detectors, and try to stay out of personal wars. If that is not acceptable to you, then perhaps you need to visit one of the many other Minelab based forums on the net.

As long as we're getting the facts straight - let me clear the record - I NEVER argued with the administrator (Bryce) about him doing something he didn't want to do (record deep/iffy signals with the Explorer) - I debated the merits of doing so (backed with proof of its value from several sources) - this is definitely about metal detecting and I found the emotional replies frustrating and baffling. I thought a forum was for discussing such things. When I posted copies of insulting treatment I'd suffered from the admin's prior post and interjected some humor to lighten things up (quote from the movie Tombstone) - some others posted that "I was dragging the thread into the mud" and "I showed a lack of class." I finally decided to do the recordings myself and was faced with even more resentment. You're right - there is at least one excellent forum on Minelab detectors on the net, and the name of that forum is banned here too. :ban: I've contributed to FindMall for over 10 years and made many friends and helped numerous people with my experience and posted many finds, but if I'm not welcome, then maybe it's time for this agumentative troublemaker and all-around "bad egg" to move on.

I want to say I am sorry for posting the lack of class remarks Erik in NJ.Sometimes I think it is best to let a point we are trying to make just fade away on the forums rather than to keep revisiting it over and over.I think it is called getting stuck in a rut and I will be the first to admit I have been guilty of doing the same thing in the past.
I know many of us on this forum are very passionate about our hobby and are bound to disagree from time to time. However let that not cause us to get nasty towards one another. If we all could just apply the age old (Golden Rule) each and every time we make a post the forums will be a much better place for all members and visitors alike. Many times it is the tone of a post rather than the actual words that may offend so I for one wish you no ill will and look forward to your posts in the future.
We all have bad days and it would seem several of us had the same bad day and let it cloud our posting,to many rainy days perhaps.
Just my thoughts on the matter,Ray.

No hard feelings on this end - I don't bear drudges - if I did my wife and I would never speak! I can see how remarks in text can be misconstrued and taken out of context. Some of my remarks are "tongue-in-cheek" and that's difficult to get across in text. I apologize if I offended - it was not my intent - I like spiritted debate on a topic and I was simply trying to prove a point (BTW I got some amazing recordings in the field yesterday - with your detecting headphones plugged into the PC you can't tell you're not plugged into the Explorer). You're a very fine detectorist and I'd like to still consider you a friend regardless of my fate on FindMall. Thanks again for your post! Best, Erik :surrender:

Erik...You and I agree on most things. We even agree on this one. You are a smart guy. Please give up on the 'neurotic behavior' trying to be logical and reasonable with unreasonable personalities. You cannot win this one. My suggestion is to read what you want and do what the 'owners' demand. Post the results of your testing with an URL to those results.
I am extremely interested in hearing your recordings. I couldn't identify an 'iffy' silver target if my life depended on it so I can't help directly. I do firmly believe that skill can be taught and learned. I (we) just need a good teacher and be 'open' to learning in a different way.
I am wondering if the moderators would allow the discussion to continue on one of the other sub-forums? I remember some person going crazy with some posts that were merely moved to another area where it was more appropriate. Hang in there Erik. Lots of folks in history perserveared with greater adversity than this and created fresh ideas and the products that followed...Jim

This is not a public forum and the person or persons that own it get to make the rules.
I am sure that some of the forums you see today were started because the person or persons did not agree with the owner of another forum and started their own. New clubs start like that sometimes also.

You have built up a lot of knowledge over the years and it is wonderful that you share it with the new people that come along.
I hope you get past this bump and continue doing so as your advice about detecting is wanted ad needed.

Having been a Minelab type of guy for many years but I a waiting of Fexex to deliever a new White's V3 detector.
Perhaps you might consider trying one and posting what you think of it.

At any rate I hope you stick around.

You have to read between the lines and realize you can't punch a cop in the nose because he wrote you a bad ticket. Is what it is and yes it sucks. I imagine if enough people are not liking the less then candid debating, they will move on to a place that allows it. It seems political, like working in an office. You know the guy who you trained, who is lazy and sucks at his job gets your promotion kind of thing (not saying anyone at find mall is like that), but that political sort of thing exists everywhere. Give it a few days and I am sure they will let you back in. They banned me from this forum a few weeks ago and here I am. Just be careful who you spiritedly debate, certain people you are not allowed to disagree with regardless of why. It's a shame. Used to be just the obnoxious name callers where banned, now it's become a clique. Once again, my too honest, obnoxious, narrow opinion:shrug:

Been listening to the 'flutey' tones provided by capnse on the Explorer Forum and have followed all the debate about teaching others what that tone is. I am even more convinced than even before that it is do-able. By the way, I listened to the tones the Capn was digging and went to my keyboard and tried to match the tone. When it warbled the tone of the note on the musical scale went from a Db to and Eb above middle C. It was pretty consistent but I'll check some more out. Of course the keyboard didn't have the same tone, maybe I should have set it to flute instead of piano, but I am fairly confident I have the right note pitch.
There may be a ton of subtelties I am not picking up, but listening and watching him dig, I began to hear something distinctive. However, some of the wheaties that came out sounded like the silver and I think even fooled the Capn a couple of times. I think he was expecting silver but got a wheatie. If that happened to me, I'd consider it a good day. Jim

Jim, Just bought a high-end piece of software yesterday and I will be apply DSP (digial signal processing) algorithms to the sounds that I will be recording in order to glean as much info from the sounds that I can and "demystify" the subtleties that some of the "aces" are hearing and either won't describe or can't in text....it'll be very, very interesting. I did some reference recordings inside with my X-1 on a few coins....I can send you the files I have as they are compressed. I should also be getting my hi-def camera soon too, so it's coming together. Have dropped some serious coin on this project, but I think it'll be worth it! Best, Erik
