ATX Deep Seeker Package plus coil cover

joemac

New member
The Garrett ATX Deep Seeker Package arrived about 5 minutes ago. It did come with international plug options and a coil cover for the 12" coil only. The cover is a solid design.
Better go and have a play now ;)
Cheers
Joe

What does the coil cover look like? What color is it? Can you post a picture of it on here?

Thanks,
Stephen

Hi Stephen
I have uploaded the images of the ATX 12' coil with cover attached. Very easy to attach, it just snaps on
All the best
Joe

That's a good looking cover... I'm still using Gorilla tape on my coils till I get one. Looks solid!
Thanks for posting the picture.

Awesome! Thanks for the pictures!

That's a terrible coil cover! It's going to collect sand in the surf and weigh a ton. It should snap over the grid, not the whole coil.

You could always cut sections out .....
The other side of the coin is a solid cover is better in brushy dry land environments.

Cheers,

Tye

I have to agree with SCBS on this one.

Looks like a Quick Fix cover to me, and as already mentioned, a great Catch Pan for all sorts of cr@p. Not a very well thought out design like the AT Pro coil covers I must say. I'd sooner use Ape Tape like BK has mentioned than that one. What's Garrett thinking here?

Maybe I'm over looking something here which wouldn't be the first time. If I I'm, maybe someone could enlighten me on it, thanks.

:)

Hmmm Isn't that coil cover especially used in water and on dry sand gonna make the whole thing heavier to carry. Whats another name for this gorilla tape you guys are on about, across the pond here its probably got another name, thats gotta be a better option.

BearKat said he used the Gorilla tape on his ATX coil as a cover and worked quite well. I just bought some myself and It looks pretty tuff and sticky.

If that's the coil cover that comes with my ATX order, then I'm taking a Heat Gun to it right from the get go and I will make my own Grill Cover if need be. Hopefully Garrett will see the light before I make my purchase and at least give us the option to buy a grill cover for it.

At this point, I'm just Hang'n Ten until Garrett gets things sorted out with their orders.

:)

Couldn't you just mark around the inside of the cover leave a couple of mm from the coil cut it out and heat the plastic to curl it to the coil?

Swat....

That's what I'd do also...I don't believe Garret has ever made two covers for the same coil.

Cheers,

Tye

When I bought my ATX last month I got the cover. The dealer I bought it off said he had found one of the other models skid plate fitted it.
I do not think this is made for the ATX so here's hoping they bring one out for the sand.
I found the solid cover great when in the bush, but could not use it in the sand.

I had a discussion with Garrett about coil covers a few weeks ago and they will be making both a closed cover, like the one above and an open cover, similar the ones for the AT-Pro.

That's good to hear frog21, thanks for sharing that.

Been away and couldn't sign in from my mobile. Back online now.
It's very interesting that some like the solid coil cover and some don't. I have spent approx. 10 hours on the ATX so far and I do like the solid cover. I was using the ATX in the bush. I agree the solid cover would be useless in the water but loved it in the bush. As for the sand making it heavy, it's really easy to turn the detecter on it's side to get rid of any crap. I have found also thet the ATX does false when bumped on rocks but I got used to that and just went back over the ground again.
The first day of usage and my arm was in a bit of pain but after the third day I was used to the weight. The strap also took a bit of getting used to. I ended up get some velcro strapping to fit it. I found the instructions that came with the strap next to useless.
The ATX runs quiet. I did meet up with a guy running the GPX 5000 and he complained about how hot the ground was. I had no problems with the ATX though.
I didn't find anything but lead shot and boot nails but it was great to finally get my hands on the machine and use it.
I think my next purchase will be the Minelab 45 Pro swing. I really didn't like the strap that came with the ATX, it would also fall off when digging.
Happy digging :drinking:

Hey Joe...

Was wondering what happened to you....glad your back.
I have a pro swing that I will be using too...it has a very nice padded setup for heavy detectors.

Interesting observation about the mineralized soil and noise it makes.
I have heard others say the ATX runs quiet...thanks for the confirmation.

I'm sorry you found no gold...but lead shot is a good indicator!

Cheers Joe,

Tye

Hi Tye
It was a bit frustrating watching the forum and not being able to sign in and give my 2 cents worth. Thanks for the feed back on the Pro Swing. I must admit by day 3 I was used to the weight and the pain had gone. I think Garrett need to redesign their strap though. It was very frustrating having it falling off when digging. Not worried about the lack of gold. I really enjoyed getting out and getting to know the new toy. It really is a joy to use. Any news on your delivery date yet?
