ATX COST:ukflag::sadwalk:

Very disappointed.
The price of the ATX in Britain is about $3,000, a lot more that I was expecting, so there is no way I shall be buying one.
It would be nice as we have hundreds of beaches in a small area and we get quite a lot of rain so it would be perfect.
I shall just have to try and find lots of valuable items or win the Lottery.
I shall keep looking at the forum just in case.

I also live in the UK and must admit i am very tempted to buy one,but i will never buy a new detector till its been out for a minimum of 6-9 months just to see how reliable it is and also see how it performs.

@JAN1,do you have a source regarding the UK price as its not been released over here that i can see,or is the price that you have mentioned a conversion of the US price.

The price at Regtons is

Seems to me that if all you are doing is beach detecting then the ATX is a waste of money because the TDI, Dual Field, Sand Shark, Sea hunter and Excal will do the same job just as well and maybe better in some instances.
From what I saw of the ATX and TDI comparison, the TDI was the better responding detector to deep targets and that the ATX lost significant depth when the ground balance was spot on.

Just my thoughts, not gospel..

Thanks for all the info. As I am now retired I was going to treat myself to a new detector.
I bought a Minelab Explorer SE to detect on all the local farm land, the thing is hardly ever used as I never realised how much it rains in Cornwall.
My main detectors are Detector pro Waders with 8in and 10in coils which I think are great but the sand on the beaches has been getting deeper and deeper so I was looking for a Pi.
With reference to the TDI who makes it, I have also read bad reports of the Excal.
Anyway hope everyone has a great Christmas and a healthy new year.

The ATX was hitting on a small gold chain when fully GB that the TDI didn't see..
Plus slightly untuned it was hitting harder than the TDI other targets .... de- tuned depth test wasn't tried.... But would be interesting!

Cheers,

Tye

Jan1, don't you folks have to pay a fairly heavy VAT on them or is this the price without the VAT?

You either buy one or you dont.........

I am not so sure that it detected the chain but did detect the clasp.

I am in Australia and the price here was over $1,000.00 dearer than the USA, after taxes and postage. I was on the brink of ordering from the US when an Aussie dealer made a deal I couldn't refuse:clapping:. I think it is always worth asking dealers if they can do a better price or throw in some sweeteners. If ordering from the USA you do need an address in the USA as USA dealers are not allowed to sell the Garrett ATX outside the USA. So much for free trade:thumb down:
All the best
Joe

Adrian....

It was the clasp:please:.....couldn't you run a bit de tuned down your way?
I'm betting there'll be a lot of dry detecting that way too...if the ground isn't too hot.

Cheers,

Tye

Hi all I am new to this site and new to metal detecting I have been looking at the garrett ATX to have it shipped from the USA . There was one company that couldn't ship it because they had a contract with garrett that they couldn't ship to the uk what the hell is that all about, garret shooting themselves in the foot I thing, the ATX is cheaper to buy from out there you can get the deep seeker package for less than the uk price of the standard package. I have been looking at a company called mashdetectors.com do you guys know if they ship to uk.

I don't know for sure...but it's worth a try.....Mash seems like a good outfit to deal with!

Cheers,

Tye

@Swat0155,it looks like a very tempting offer to get it shopped over from the US but have you seriously looked at all the various taxes and duty that will be added to the detector when it arrives over here in the UK,gut feeling tells me you have not as these will add a massive amount to the price that is of course if you have it shipped over.

If you plan on going to the US on vacation and bringing it back as hand luggage like i have done many times then it could well be worth your while that is subject too you not being stopped at customs, please note i am not endorsing this move or anything like that but sometimes it can be advantages but at a risk.

Hi megab I have been looking it the tax and customs charges. The compony in the us said they could drop the price for the ATX to $1500 not sure about how to workout all the custom charges and tax though.......... If your going out to the us anytime let me know we could do a deal then lol

Glad to see I have stirred things up a bit.
I don't mind paying over the odds but over a $1,000 more will make lots of people decide not to purchase one.
Better 50% of something than 100% of nothing.
Hope it makes dealers think, including Garrett.

$1500 sounds low - but if it's true that's a great price...

Mashdetectors did not give him that price, I assure you...that is way too low...and yes, it is a good price from some one else apparently.
