AtPro depth implosion?

I need to know!

Lots of us are seriously thinking of going subsurface this year, Scuba that is, 20' max I figure, and I would really like to take the Pro with me...sure, its rated for 10'...but a guy has to think there were some destructive tests done and the standard rig held up at at least 15-20' right?

All mfgs underrate these kind of specs so a guy dont take it to the max and incur a disasterous warrantee problem...even a vague reply is better than nothing, like "rated for 10', mfg with a +5' cushion, after 15' you are on your own"

I would like to know for sure! I'd love it if somebody from Garrett or in the know even PM'd me the actual destructive tests regarding AtPro depth implosion/failure...and I promise to not let the info out to the general public...

I figure a heavy grease on the batt box Oring seal would help, and maybe a wrap of tape, or some other knowledgeable advice regarding where the physical depth failure occurred and at what depth? Was it in the coil or batt box oring seal? Faceplate?...

I dont want to be the guinea pig if I can help it! Heading over to the dive shop this afternoon..surely somebody knows, so help a Brother out here if you do!...:please:.

Your idea, I suggest you go for it and see. And quickly, before your water warms up. Oh, and good luck. HH jim tn

See? Thats the thing! Jimmy, I will most certainly 'go for it and see' if thats what it comes to..Now its getting personal! I dont have a whole lot of time left to fool around hunting gold on this Planet, and I would prefer to do it with my Pro if possible...

But If I'm gonna be the guinea pig, all on my own with no adult supervision or qualified advice, I reckon I will be doing all sorts of posts about bags of gold coins I found in 30' of water! "No worry boys, my modifications make this damn thing is good to 50'! Just send your rig in to Mudpuppy Industries for a $100 non refundable retrofit charge, just call Sue at Garrett if you have any trouble"...

I need somebody that actually blew up a few rigs in a controlled depth test environment to say: "Hey Mud, 10' is all it can do, if you want to go any deeper, go get yourself a DetectorPro Udub you crazy troublesome bastard, and leave this subject alone"... I'd be good with that, as long as it came from somebody that knows and not just one of you other 'surface air breathers' that want to bust my clanks!

MUD, MUD, MUD ............. Your going to ruin a good machine my friend.. seals glass, etc will not take the pressure.

Just saying ...............

Good luck my friend.

Germans took their u-boats past factory specs. all the time. U.S. too. But

Mud, sometimes you gotta go deep $$$ if you want to go deep. You dont want to invest in scuba gear and go out there risking your Pro. Id look around for a Sea hunter, or Inferno with low miles. If it dont work out you can always sell it.

Naysayers and surface breathers! As far as the expense, I'm making a diving bell out in the garage!...using a garbage can and some window sash weights strung all along the edges!

Y'all can stay up top and hunt for pennies! I'm going all Atocha this year!

Reminds me of "Professor Fate" (Jack lemon) from the Great Race. At 10.5 feet it's going to look like two divers down there. ( bubbles) Than the long walk of shame back to the auto. Carring your new sprinkling can .Believe me you'll be able to laugh about it, but it will take years. Course your adaptations could work, but you'll need a VW bug to weigh that sucker down.
So like "Dirty Harry " asked. "Do you feel lucky" As for that walk of shame, ain't so bad. I been on it a few times. Just bring a newspaper to hide your face. Lol

You are going way beyond redlining the parameters set out for the depth of your detector. If it breaks, you will be S.O.L. Don't do it! Why not try, to be a PI GUY:) I have done extremely well with my Infinium, Sea Hunter and ATX. Your depth will surpass the AT Series and they are both rated to go to 200ft.underwater with no worries of leaks. If you drown your AT Pro  you will have to replace it anyway, so get a PI. Buy used if you have to, and if you don't like it....sell it.

Here are the machines underwater. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR80THrehxs

Yeah, John's idea is sound. And Mud, you won't need to make a garage made submersible and buy a new garbage can then. HH jim tn

I get visions of Wile Coyote--the can crushes around you like a spring trap and the Roadrunner swims by wearing a mask and snorkel and takes the gold. Beep Beep. All I know is water pressure changes extremely fast with every foot of depth. 11 feet is probably too deep. Like atmospheric pressure, you are measuring/weighing all the air above that spot. Water is how much heavier?

:clapping::rofl::lmfao:

I'm sure Jaques Cousteau had to listen to this kind of encouragement! "You are gonna do what?" :heh:

I am kinda curious exactly how deep before this thing cans...

When I was a kid, we had this really deep and crystal clear quarry..straight down granite sides....a guy would tie a rock to the top of an aluminum pop can and sink it down there with the air trapped inside the can...it was cool to see them implode!
The bubbles coming up were like upside down fireworks as they expanded and came up!...they seemed to hold up fairly deep...seemed like at least 30' or more maybe...if a fellow had the shell of a scrap trashed Pro rig and tried something like this a guy would get an idea...slowly lower it down on a string, watch for bubbles signalling a failure, and then pull it back up and measure the string, and inspect for the failure point..?..

It sort of strange nobody has canned their rig to date that we know of by scuba diving too deep with it? We cant all be dirt hunters or waders?

Anyway...I will be careful and report back..probably sometime this Summer after ice out...like July maybe...:sadwalk:
Mud.

In regards to "we can't all be dirt hunters or waders," we are the vast, vast majority, though. It seems, even the very ardent beach hunters who are out there chest and neck deep with water proof detectors seldom if ever get down to even t0 feet with their rig. Anyway, if I had your mind set of wanting to go deeper like scuba diving, I would save my clad and can money and get one just for that purpose. The way you stab clad, you would have enough for one in very short time. HH jim tn

All I can say is come on spring Mud is starting to go nuts with cabin fever!! First you cut up the coil on your F-70 now your thinking of drowning your Pro!! Mud get yourself a CZ-20 or 21 it has very nice tones and is rated for deep down water detecting!!

14.7 psi at sea level is the weight of the atmosphere above you. At 33 feet of salt water the pressure has doubled to 29.4 psi. 1 ATM (atmosphere of pressure) for each 33 feet of salt water (34 feet for fresh water). Most bad things happen in the top 30 feet of water. Just sayin'

Mud, get out and find some gold and silver the regular way and pay for the PI machine. It's bad having cabin fever, but it's worse having good weather and not being able to detect. No, it's not bad, it's frustrating as can be, but I only leave Mama alone now to go to town and do a quick check on my emails and read a few posts on the forums. I always have another reason, medicine, groceries other errands when I come and try to get back home as quick as I can. Hang in there and ask the wife to buy you a PI machine. You can get a good deal on the Sea Hunter and probably pay for it this season the way you find gold. Good luck & happy hunting.

Thanks Fongu!..same here, I can only be gone for short periods of time, generally very early am when I am not missed...the Wife is not too keen on me diving alone either...you stay in it Brother, we all really appreciate what you do for your Mother and who you are to us as a very capable hunter dealing with unique personal circumstances!

You have your priorities right and are a great Man and addition to this Forum...You have helped us all be better Men because of knowing you.. more than you will ever know!...
