ATP Newbie/Long time detector

Ok all took my finds to the local expert today he is looking them over but he said that they looked like natural silver nuggets in the first second. I went back to my spot yesterday and today and picked up another 8 nuggets with the average size of 20.7 grams. The Garret has a new coil comming in order to see if that fixes the problem however the great people over there did give me some pointers with my new detector. They seemed to work as I found a 1944 wheatie while digging up my nuggets at 6'' down today. I will see what happens when the new coil arrives...but I could have just been a dunce.

Should have seen the old guys eyes when I walked in to the place...they all started drooling. It is not common to find pure silver like these so most likely they were washout but that means there must be a vein close by.

M_D I have no clue what kind it is..other than it reacts to nitric acid correctly and the one in my pic above is 20.7 grams alone heavy for a such a little piece of metal....Hope the man from the shop comes back with the news I am waiting for!

Night Crawler: A note about my GB..I founf that today when I GB auto to 93 and backed it off to 88 it started hitting deeper...am I crazy or has that worked for you guys?

I'm glad you surfaced with some updates IKSDoomsday.

I have never really tried that procedure, but others have and said it does give more depth, how much, I really couldn't say IKSDoomsday. My AT Pro runs very well in my conditions and I don't want to rock the boat sort of speak. I just might give it a go on my next outing.

I'm glad you found more of those nuggets IKSDoomsday. I'm really curious as how they got their. Is this area new or old? If it's new, then maybe the city brought a load of dirt in from somewhere to pretty things up a bit. If it was brought in, then It would be interesting to see if you can find out from where. If the area is old, then it would sure be "real" interesting to find the silver vein if possible.

Thanks very much for the update IKSDoomsday and what a score you hit on their. Outstanding job I must say (so far ((may be more)).

Please keep us updated IKSDoomsday, thanks.

:)

The area has had people living on it since the late 1800's early 1900's/ I live in a town close to another ghost town called Silverton...guess what was found in the mountains around Silverton..haha. However the place where I am digging it has a thin layer of organic soil then at about 8-10'' depending on exact location you move in to a sandy soil where I have yet to find much of anything. The Silver I suppose could have been trucked in a very long time ago however I am not sure at this point. It is concentrated in an area of less than one acre..well at least the stuff I am finding at the moment. Do not get me wrong however I make no claim yet that I know for a fact that it IS silver until I get an experts word on it. By weight though i can tell you it is not aluminum or nickle...Platinum would not turn black in acid from my little research. Wish it was platinum but then a new rush would start in my little home town lol!

Completely non-magnetic/ Platinum would have some small amount of magnetism I think
Silvery metallic when buffed/not at all like lead or the other junk out there.
Heavy for its size

If it is silver I will not be rich as I did not find any more nuggets today (except the ones I knew about) but I will be a very happy metal detector!

IKS, keeping my fingers crossed here for you that you have a good bounty of silver, good for you and hoping for the best, cheers. Not far from where I live there has been many a silver nugget found, they call it ruby silver and the area streches from Madoc through Sharbot Lake (where ruby silver is often found nugget form laying on the bedrock or creeks) up into northern Quebec.

This person you took those nuggets to, can he be trusted? Why is he taking so long to give you an answer here? I'm just suspicious by nature IKSDoomsday especially when it comes to a good find like that.

I own a couple of claims up here IKSDoomsday, and the "BIGGEST" mistake I ever made on one of them, was to post my metal detecting finds on it. To this day, I still have people wondering around up their. When it comes to a good strike with Gold, Silver, Money, or anything of real value, the nicest people can go "Funny In The Head" over it. And these sure aren't the people you want watching your 6 when your hiking out of the mountains with a bag full of nuggets either.

I'm not like that (Thank God).

You did mention his eyes lit up and was salivating all over the place when you showed him those nuggets, so "obviously" he new what you had at the get go. Like I said, I'm suspicious by nature IKSDoomsdaym sorry, I just have your best interest in mind here. When I bring nuggets in to be checked by the experts here, I "never" let them out of my sight. Most essayers don't mind that at all and do their testing in front of me (for a fee of course), hehe.

When I see someone like yourself make a good hit like that, I'm very happy for you, especially if the AT Pro found it. Let us know how things turn out IKSDoomsday, thanks.

No he is very trustworthy. Here in America we celebrate Columbus Day so he had yesterday off. I have just been out in the field for the past 24hrs LMAO. Yes they are silver CONFIRMED. I still do not know if they are from a trucked in load or not but I know one thing for sure....now that I am not freaking out over finding silver nuggets I can give you a weight. The total confirmed weight is 243.8g or 8oz roughly- in the ones that I took down to him. I also have another one here that is about 15-18g so add that and you have my total silver find thus far. Every time I go back I can pull at least one more as I did today. They do not seem to be an alloy of any sort but I am just going by what he said. I am going to get a few more cleaned up and post the pics here.

I also want to state that I think my AT Pro was not the problem more just my newbie lack of exp. Now that I am getting use to the settings I feel much more comfortable.

I keep seeing all those I found a silver coin videos on youtube and I think to myself...I have not found anything like that just these lumps of pure silver LOL!

I want to point out that the ATP reads these nuggets at 75-78 on the vdi scale when not in the ground but I think they hit a little lower when they were in the ground because of the horrible ferrous material I am hunting through. I really have to listen out for them.

8oz of Silver on your first trip out? That's an outstanding find IKSDoomsday.

Personally, I have never seen anything like that with that much found in one area at one time. Keep looking IKSDoomsday that is amazing. That Silver looks as raw as raw can get, very close to the source if it wasn't trucked in. I'm glad to hear the man you took the silver to is trustworthy.

It would be great to round them all up and take a couple of pictures of them, it would be nice to see your total score to this point. I hope theirs more out their IKSDoomsday.

Thanks for the update.

:)

The plan is to get them all back tomorrow and have some pics up for you guys that night. The real work will be getting them clean because it is not easy...at all........The grunge on them is something else. I might have to make a homemade electrolysis machine. Either way I think me and the wife are going to have a couple rings made out of a couple of them for us and our daughter and some stuff for my boys as they all helped dig them up.
