AT waterproofing :nerd:

All I have to do is look at their track record and I see no problem. Look at the Sea Hunter. It has been on the market for decades and found tons of goodies all over the world at depths far greater than a measely ten feet. Mel Fisher found the Atocha with a Sea Hunter and it was one helluva lot deeper than ten feet and in saltwater or have you all overlooked that little milestone in history.

Bill.

You know as funny as that sounds when you get some free time check out waterproof classification rating and descriptions.....mainly IP classifications between IP66 through IP68. Time is actually part of the equation when ti comes to waterproof classifications though there is no differentiation between day and night :) :) :) :) :)

The engine went out on my work truck. I called Garrett and they sent me a new one! Man you can't beat that kind of service! But I have had 4 Garrett detectors and none of them ever had a problem.

I've made my own waterproof machine. I do know of the ratings. I have seen the difference. I'm sure Garrett know these ratings all to well. But this mostly is for piezo switches, speakers, toggles, rockers and push button devices etc. It appears to me that the switches and/or waterproofing them is a Garrett design. They didn't buy off the shelf components. It would appear to me they are using their snap switch/ membrane Garrett design switch related to the Ace series. I can see from modifying several Ace 250's that it could be a good waterproof design. So if Garrett tells me it's waterproof - I believe it. If I weigh it down for 2 yrs 364 days in my tub and it develops a leak I have confidence that Garrett would either repair or replace it. A warranty is only as good as the company behind it. Most US companies do a fine job backing up their products. You can't say that for other popular out of the US manufactures.

You have to consider Garrett's service record, which is absolutely top-notch. They will stand behint their products with quick turn-around times on repairs, unlike a few other companies that keep your machine for months. If I decide to get another Garrett in the future, I surely will not be apprehensive when I send the money in for it.

i wonder what will happen when you hunt in the woods an the cable is stuck by thorns, then you, hunt in the water. i know it would take a lot trips to the woods, an then maby not. something to thank about.i still want one through.

Khouse,
In line with your thought. It brings up the question, "why no night light"? If yer gunna hunt at night , ya need a backlight. Even if it's the first half of the night. Right?

That would be nice but there has to be a stopping point on features to keep the price in the range that they want it. I'm sure the designers are well aware of the price point the powers at be want a machine to be at. These extra features some are wanting just might be on models to come? Kind of like the Ace 150 and 250. Really the same guts but the 250 has a few more features and adjustments.

The coil and headphone connections are waterproof. It wouldn't matter if you cut either cable in two and poured water down the cable. It still won't reach inside the control head.

Remember its made for wading not diving and guts of unit are sealed in a waterproof compartment. Years ago this was not the case and were sealed with a rubber with a special grease and most of the leaking was caused by improper procedure putting the seal with rubber washers so for shallow water see no problems...along this line...

Dan if that is true about it being encapulated. If something went wrong and there is no way to repair it. Without cutting it open. Will Garrett just give you a new control head?

I'm sure each compartment is sealed with an o-ring or better. But the key is you'll never be messing with those seals. Only the battery seal will be susceptible to leaking because of user error, contamination or age. Even if the battery compartment does fail your other compartments will be dry and safe.

Kenny, that is how the CZ-21 is designed.

Perhaps the coil a couple of feet.:goodnight: but I would never ever submerge the machinery under water as shown in the adds

That's crazy talk. When a machine says it's waterproof and a 2 year warranty your not going to submerge it if needed? Just buy an Ace 250/350 for wading - but you better not drop it!
