I would like to know what was the #1 reason you bought an AT Pro?

Thanks for your answers.

Andy

Simple. It's the best that I could get for the price range. And the longer I use the machine, the more I appreciate it.

For me... I live in Washington. Wanted a waterproof, tough, "all terrain" detector. I don't mind rain storms and the pro has been great. Even had it in lakes and found rings! Another plus that wasn't a seller for me, but after I got mine was the weight of the machine. To me it's light. Some say it's heavy, but I feel it's just right to swing for hrs.

research research research talked with a lot of people cost and felt the AT Pro fit in the middle very well and my local whites dealer was like ya we have them there over there and also checked the reviews and customer service and and customer reviews that the way I got mine thanks

I originally purchased the AT Pro based on much research, product reviews, and customer service reviews. I wanted a quality waterproof machine in the $600-$800 range. After a brief learning experience with the AT Pro, I wanted to maximize depth, so I always run it wide open without a ground balance. I am totally impressed with the response time of the AT Pro. I can fly over the dry sand in the very early morning to cover a lot of ground to retrieve recent drops before other hunters arrive.

Now, I am looking for a quality machine with a true All Metal Mode and it would be nice to have another Garrett machine to be able to interchange some parts. Sooo, it looks like an AT Gold is in my future. I believe the AT Gold with my AT Pro stock coil on it, will give me a couple more inches of depth over my At Pro while scanning slow and deep. I look forward to running the AT Gold with the larger coil on it wide open in All Metal Mode.

Use my AT PRO mainly fresh water beaches & lakes. It's A KILLER ON RINGS AND GOLD AND PLATUNUM. OVER $ 4000.00 DOLLARS THIS PAST SUMMER . ( UP TOO 30-35 HOUR A WEEK. RETIRED IN VA.)

My reply is a little different than most. I bouth the ATP because its waterproof most importantly , and because I heard good things about it. I think its a great detector for the money even though I had a problem with mine right out of the box , which Garrett fixed really quickly with the best customer service I have seen. Its a good thing that the most important reason I bought one is the waterproof feature though since after using it a LOT for one year I have to say that other than being waterproof its performance is average for a mid range detector. It has a fast recovery time but there are other mid range detectors that do too , decent target identification ability but other mid range detectors do too , the iron audio is nice but I never use it , target seperation is good especially with the 5x8 coil but apparently other mid range detectors can match it , depth is average as well. I am not knocking the ATP , anyone wanting to hunt in water ....mostly fresh water .. you cant beat the ATP , just being realistic. I am satisfied with my ATP and Im glad I bought it , but in spite of all the hype there really isnt much that sets it apart from some other mid range detectors from what I can see. Its not a negative thing to say its performance is average though , its right in their neck and neck with quite a few others.

I agree 100% with your honest opinion! The only things I think it lacks are a backlight, ergonomics, and a larger numerical display. The VDI is very stable though in comparison to some machines I've used. For a Mid-range price it is hard to beat. The waterproof feature is what sets it apart ,from the others, in my book.

Because it was the logical step up from my 250, and because I watch too many nuggetnoggin videos:laugh:

I've had mine for about a month, already used it in Arizona for gold prospecting, city parks river beaches and this week in San Diego on the ocean beaches. It is versatile! I also love that I can just rinse it off when I'm done.

I bought mine when they first came out. I had some of the initial problems many did but Garrett fixed them with no problems and it ran great right up until I sold it to get the ATX. I do a lot of salt water beach detecting and it worked fine for that but just wanted a machine that would work a little better and for prospecting. After I got the Pro I then bought the Gold. I still have the Gold which I love for parks and the girl friend can use it for meteorites when we do that. The Pro was the first MD I ever owned. I bought it after reading all the rave reviews and comparisons to other similarly priced machines although price wasn't really a consideration. What sold me most was how easy everyone was saying it was to operate, it was waterproof and if I didn't like MDing I could easily sell it with little loss. I never regretted getting that machine and hated to part with it but something had to go. You really can't go wrong with it for a good general waterproof detector, IMHO. It just does everything and pretty good to boot.

Why did I buy it? Probably the same reason most of us gullible humans do. Great marketing. Pre-Diggers marketing. Let's just say that I like the AT Pro so much that I'm still using it despite those two...

More importantly, why have I kept it for four years and used it more than any other detector in that span?

One reason: audio. Audio that blends and is intuitive. Audio that tells me what's under the coil correctly a very high percentage of the time.

Depth and most other aspects of this detector are good but not great. The audio is great.

VDI at depth is mediocre and the display could use improvement.

Ergonomics are good with the 5X8 coil but only so-so with the stock 11. Both are excellent coils. The 5X8 excels in trash. I had a NEL aftermarket coil and didn't like it as well.

The AT is very sweep speed tolerant which makes it extremely versatile in various ground scenarios.

It is a very stable detector, I think it could handle more gain than it has in many scenarios. I can usually run it at full 7 bar sensitivity.

Build quality has been an issue for me, but improving. Parts that are prone to breaking have mostly been improved and issues corrected. For instance, the older style armcuff (twice broken for me) has been replaced with a newer much sturdier ribbed one.

The plastic screw ports that go into the rod and hold the control box in place have snapped on each of the AT Pros I have. When that happens Garrett has to replace the whole outer shell of the control box. Fortunately, their customer service is excellent. Love ya, Myra! One was fixed under warranty and one was not. The price was very reasonable with the out of warranty one and their turn around time on repairs is always good.

The AT is a K.I.S.S detector. Some detectors feel like work to use, the AT feels like fun to use. And there's a lot to be said for that.

I did have one a couple years ago or was it 3 ? but sold it .
Last week I bought another after deciding against an Ace of some sort, anyway I decided I wanted something water proof and did not want another CTX which is not for me.
Cant really say what I think of it other than I like the look of it and will give it a go sometime soon .
Makes a change from Minelab's and the Deus.

I traded my Whites V3i for my second At pro I owned one a few years ago' The main reason is simplicity all the settings are just a push button away The V3i had many more adjustments but were deep in the menus And at my age I don't need deep I want simplicity and that is what I have. Now. Hell I go into a room to get something and can't remember what I am after, So I sure as heck couldn't remember how to set and adjust the V for best performance.

I gave my machine a run at the beginning of April and in 2 hours the coil cover was ruined ! so I wont be able to use it again till I have got a new cover . I used mine on a stony beach , not impressed with the cover at all . But the machine is fine.

No lakes round here , just lots of briny blue . Think I might trade the original 11 in coil for a Nel.
