AT Pro question

I have been out hunting school playgrounds the past couple of weeks, and it has been snowing, raining, drizzling, when oh when can I get my AT Pro? It's looking like it should be mine by the middle of January at the latest. Wonder if I can still use it by then, or are we gonna have a real New England winter this year? Did find a South Korean 10 Won coin today ( was identified by someone else, looks like a penny, and a 1 Euro coin ( maybe the school had a foreign coin day?) plus a US dollar coin, and the assorted clad/St Christopher medal/button/kids ring. It was a fun day, but I spent a lot of time worrying about using the Spectrum in the damp weather. Artie

Don't know if anyone is still following this thread, but my AT Pro should be here Monday! This is gonna be the longest winter of my life waiting for spring to get here. Artie

Congrats, Artie! Maybe you can find some leafy woods that's still diggable?

Yeah Artie, I've been following this post since you started it. Congrats on your new ATPro. This is just one of many posts that made me pull the trigger on mine. I ordered the 5x8DD coil with mine, the headphone adapter and some new Grey Ghost headphones. Got a great deal from Bart at Big Boys Hobbies. I'll get mine on Tuesday. Seems like a great bunch of forum members here. I'm excited about mine and I'm sure I'll have some questions. GL and HH, Joe.

yeah, there's a lot of guys enthusiastic about their AT Pro's and they don't mind sharing info. I'm not sure if the guy I'm buying mine from is a sponsor here, so I don't want to tick anyone off, but he's been real helpful. He had one of last years spring specials left, comes with the two coils, coil covers, book, and some other stuff. I also took the advice of a poster and ordered another lower rod, and hardware for quick field changes. I'm not sure about the woods and conditions for hunting, I do have the saltwater beaches available, and may be pulling the trigger on an Excal for the beaches, then I'll have 2 modern detectors, which should take care of most situations for me. Went to a beach today, haven't md'ed since Dec 16, was going crazy, found 4 quarters, a dime, a nickel, and three pennies, with the assorted amount of foil, and pull tabs. That was better than I had expected. Hopefully that miserable rodent in Pa. doesn't see no shadow this year. Artie

The AT is assembled, and waiting, and manual read several times. This is gonna be the longest 3 months of my life, it couldn't seem any slower if i was in prison.

The ATP will work on the beach, but is a little tricky on wet sand and in the salt water. Absolutely no trouble in dry sand.

You should have gone to a dealer and tried one first as it has no threshold and makes a lot of noise. You will have to concentrate to separate good signals from junk. Up here in michigan mine ground balances in the 80's and I have to notch out the low 40's to tone down the falsing. Hope you have good luck with yours.

I found $200 in clad this year so my machine will be paid off within 3 years. In addition I recovered the most silver ever for me in 20 years detecting. If that doesn't work try flowers.

Hey Artie----Great to hear you received the ATPRO. I've had it out and found a few clads but winter won't last forever----even though it may seem like it. Good Luck with the machine---I like mine!!!!

I have used and test my ATP on the saltwater beach. It will work, but not as good as you may believe. It works very well in dry and damp sand. I have found numerous coins, a gold ring, and other items there. However wet sand and the surf is different. Although in my controlled test I was able to detect a quarter at 4 inches in Standard Coin and Pro Coin and Zero modes the vdi was erratic in wet sand. I did get a coin/high tone. It would not find the quarter any deeper even at full sensitivity. When a wave came in over the hole it changed everything. It seems the wetter it is the less depth I got.

The ATP is killer on soil. It pin points better than my ACE 350 and normally the coin is exactly where the machine told me it was. Hence I dig much smaller holes, no wider than my digger, unless it is very deep. The most impressive find was the dime under the piece of steel fence. The ATP picked it right out. It was deep enough that the hole swallowed my digger and I had to dig a little by hand. I love the vdi and being able to tell which coin is under the coil. Went on a club/relic hunt today in a very trashy area. I know most will tell you to use Pro mode, but I got tired of the constant tones and ended up in pro coin or Standard Zero.

I hope to try it out in fresh water within the week.
