AT Pro question

Old Katz

New member
So, how many people are using the AT Pro in regular mode as opposed to the Pro settings and do you see any real difference in the two?
Katz

I do not know what the STD mode is for? Never use it. I own the machine for the PRO features. Oh, and because it's waterproof......

Old Katz; Yes there is a difference. The speed in the Pro mode is much faster so you will be able to pick up and separate multiple targets. The speed in regular is similar to the Ace 250 or maybe the Ace 350.

Lay 3 or 4 coins down about 3 inches apart and then swing in Pro mode over them. You will get an immediate reading of all the coins. In regular mode you will have to swing a lot slower to read the targets.
The AT Pro mode will decipher a lot more info in a shorter time than in Regular mode.

Someone else can chime in if this does not sound right.

I'm like you, why even put the standard mode on a pro detector because once one gets past the learning curve it will get very little use. Then you can't sell it or stuff it in the closet.I already have a closet full of standard detectors. I know they say it's for the folks to learn on, so why not get them a Ace 150 or an Ace250 & when they feel they are ready for the At Pro sell it or trade it in on it.They can also hunt with you with two detectors that way instead of two detectors in one.To me it is like getting your kid a 410/ 12 ga. double barrel shotgun if they made one, until he gets big enough to Handel the 12 ga.he can shoot the 410.But he will be stuck with the 410 that will be of little use then. I say it would be better to get him a 410 & when he is ready for the 12ga, get him a double 12ga or other.

Point made! I wish they would have left the STD mode off & made the pro a bit more affordable.Oh well I'll just wait, maybe they will listen to an old timer. lol

Affordable? This is as good of a deal on this much detector you are going to find. Waterproof great audio I do not think the standard mode added much to the price if any
Just carried over from 350 technology I would think. It will do what most detectors costing $1000 or more will do and as a bonus you can take it for a swim.

I think Garrett just wanted to cover all the bases. The Pro mode is easy to run. I think any beginner could just stick it in coin mode and start digging. I just love the Pro audio! Sweet music!

I agree to what you say & plan on getting one in the spring. The price sounds good too me also. Maybe I'll be more open minded then.

Bluewing I agree, in STD mode I might as well be swinging my Ace 250. Really don't see the need for STD mode on the At even if it is to get to know the machine. Pro mode does not miss a thing and it tells you everything you need to know about what your swinging over for sure. I know on my Ace 250 that sometimes trashy areas would basically null out any good signals if there is a lot of iron. The At in pro mode sees all and tells all. In my opinion I would just spend that getting to know your detector time and apply it towards learning Pro mode because once you understand what it's telling you there's no looking back, at least for me anyway.

Gerald

I use both modes. I turn the iron disc all the way up. In parks there is alot of information coming through in pro mode. I do mostly coin shooting. No need for iron. The STD mode I like better that an 250 simple the tones are wider to me ( BEEEEEEP in stead of Beep). Zero mode is very cool also.

53 coins yesterday and 25 today

Like mine a lot. For what you can get one for nothing else out there comes close.

Jason

Yeah it's just the 350 with the PRO mode added on. Didn't cost any extra bucks for that. That's why they could offer it at such an affordable price.

Well i got mine in the mail today ....We have snow outside so just played with it in the house and it will probabley never be out of the Pro mode..................... it is faster in the pro mode...........And like ..khouse ...said sweet music yes i do like the sound of the AT.......And i did have to order that gizmo for it after i got it set up a little coil heavy ........With the gizmo i think it should be fine...........

That Pro mode is too sweet for me to go back! That coil is nice too! I think I could thread a needle with it!

Nice video! Thanks. Yea, standard mode at low power is trick stuff, but I, like others are liking The sounds of the PRO Audio...

Played with the coil and a target: There is quite a gap between the two inner and over lapping windings. I kind of get off on the sizing ability the coil has. You can not only determine the size by the sound, you can tell more about it at a lower sensitivity and another sweep. There is kind of a wide happy zone there down the length of the coil. Shallow and surface targets can be much better understood at a lower sensitivity. Then you can get a feel for depth as well as size. I like that coil, I never could do things before like I am doing now with the AT PRO.

I am still hunting without headphones because the Infinium will not give up the adapter. I have to keep them both in separate rooms. VLF

Heres the reason that Garrett included the standard mode... It is so a person who is either a novice or intermediate detectorist. , who is just getting started, doesnt have to,, " change horses" a little later down the road, when they get profiencent with detecting. The standard mode can be useful at times also.. If you were doing a competition hunt,, you surely wouldnt use the pro mode now would you? you would just want to hear that beep ,, grab the coin , and off to the next one. Or what if you wanted to cherrypick a NON trash infested site, you may just use standard mode then also.
