AT Pro or AT Gold

I should get mine in a day or two. As soon as it comes in I will take it to a place that my GB2
hates. The ground is full of heavy black sand and all kinds of hot rocks. I have to gb my GB2
About every 10 foot or so. If the Garret doesn't do better it will be up for sale. I have an
Etrac for coins and such. I was/am hoping that this Garret would be a gold machine with a little
iron disc. and water proof.

HI Todd.
It will be interesting to hear how your A T Gold performs.
I had the oportunity to listen (via mbl phone) to an A T Gold in one of our gold fields today and it was noisy as blazes in the All Metal mode at all sensitivity settings and sounded like an old TR Discriminator.
I hope it works well for you guys in the States but for sure the detector is going to require a bit of fiddling to get it running smooth over here in our gold fields.

Well I got it today and I took it for a spin. It is noisy on my ground. My gb was all over the place with readings between 60 and 90. I had to run my sens. at 50% to keep a clear threshold. I will say it worked fine on bedrock but not over my gravel bars, but then about the only thing that works on my gravel bars is a Minelab PI machine. I dont know what it will do with your iron stone and salt gold feilds. I only have about an hour on the machne so I cant condem it yet. I will read the manual and see if I can learn something from it. Maybe I can spend some more time with it tomarrow. It does seem to be a good coin machine it id a dime with a 81in all metal mode. My test nugget (3-5grains) did not sound off on the 2 disc. patterns with the sens. at 50%. In all metal mode with sens. at 50% it would hit my test nug down to about 3".

HI Todd,
Some interesting comments there.
Looking forward to how the machine performs after you have got the hang of the detector in mineralised ground.

I came across a little extra money and began looking at the 705 X-Terra. I only spend a couple weeks at the beach every year, but I'd like to have a detector that works in wet sand. Still, the X-terra does not have a DD and I'm not sure it's really worth the extra $130. By the way, that's almost as much as my first detector cost. I think I'm using that extra $130 to buy beer and staying with the AT Pro. Any thoughts? When is the best time to buy a new one? Winter here is sometimes nasty.....

I think this machine will be a lot more stable with the smaller 4.5" coil over hot ground. When I am over heaver blacksand the gb is all over the place which affects everything else, depth and threshold mainly. This also happend with my old Gold Bug2 or just about any other VLF machine. Over bed rock this thing works great it is very sensative to lower conductive targets. It has no problem finding bird shot or pellets, even when they are in a crack full of blacksand. I have found that if I gb over a hot rock it will ignore most of them for a while, there realy not a problem. I havent had a chance to try it around one of the iron diggings in the area, but I will soon. I hope someone in AZ or some other gold bearing area will give it a fair shot. I will be doing more testing tomarrow., maybe I will find some gold.

Todd,

If you havn't seen this Garrett video on the ATGold out in the gold fields. You might pick up some info on the settings.
