AT PRO LEAKS

Took the Pro out for a water hunt this morning only to have it turn itself off whilst in the water. Wouldn't restart for some time eventually it did start working then stopped again :stretcher: off to get repaired now i guess :sadwalk:

OH and it had new Batteries for the hunt so they are not the problem

Were they all in correct polarity? If one was not, they will work for a short time, then crap out. It has happened to me....

That sux! Sorry to see that you're detector is fouled up.
I never had any kind of problems with mine until about one year after I bought it. It just started freakin' out and acting crazy. I sent the control box and stock coil in to Garrett's and one week later I got it back. Works better than ever now. Super deep and smooth as silk.
Happy Hunting!:)

I found that when hooking up the coil and headphone plugs that the o-ring would get "caught" on the edge and would not make a good seal as I was pushing the connector in.

I would also check the battery door, but unlikely that's the problem.

I have the Newer updated one, Did Garrett put Thicker o Rings / Batt Door / Face plate??? No i dident Dunck mine yet?? Garrett are you on this forum???
Mickfin,

I was talking with a tech at Garret and the connectors and battery leads are bulkheaded so the leaks are not from there. The connector O-ring seals are to keep the connector pins dry. The battery door seal keeps just the batteries dry. The problems occur at the faceplate seal. It's supposed to be a rare thing on the new ones.

Do you see moisture condensing inside the LCD window? That would be a sure sign of having water intrusion. Otherwise it might be another issue.

Checked all the battery polarities and all as it should be. Had used the machine for a couple of hours before entering the water.

Yes it is the version 1 machine. I've had it upside down to let any water out, being in West Australia it's quite hot at the moment so will dry out quickly, but you just don't know what damage has been done with water ingress.

Have sent an email to Garrett and waiting for their reply

You also need to grease up those O-rings before you dunk the machine as well...It takes a little maintenance if your plannong on using the machine in the water allot...
Silicone grease used for plumbing can be found at almost any harware store...The O-rings also need to be replaced from time to time...good quality rings can be found at most harware stores...the Battery comparment ring may have to be gotten from Garrett as I do not beleive it is round...I may be wrong, as I have not replaced it yet.

HH,

Yep GOGO did the divers silicone before dunking it.....wasn't much more i could do it just leaks

Sent an email to Garrett beginning of the week haven't had a reply yet  hope to get a reply soon

Argh, I feel your pain. At they'll get you fixed up!

not real impressed just found out garrett just did a repair and have not replaced the unit.. I would have thought they would replace it as it had salt water incursion now I'll be worried that down the track the salt water will cause corrosion to the mother board

Most likely the repair was a board replacement I would have thought. Did they tell you what exactly was repaired / replaced? If they didn't I'd ask for sure.

just got this reply from Garrett

"Your unit was repaired. The coil and the main board was replaced. It have gone through an assortment of test and technicians to make sure it is right when you get it back."

Grateful that they covered the return postege,, fingers crossed

When I sent mine in for the upgrade as i got one of the first ones too so I thought the items for the price was a good deal to do. I specifically asked to have it water dunk testd to check for leakage as I hadn't had a chance to use it in the water yet. I spoke to someone there who said that they do check that now before sending them back out who knows will have to see. I'm tempted to fill my bathtub and set it in there for a while to see. Otherwise it's a fantastic detector for the money great value and a greatcompany/ factory repair team too.

received my AT Gold in december assembled it turned it on and sumerged it in the bath tub for 15 minutes and no leaks have done this twice so far and no problems... bought the AT Gold because I think
the AT Pro still has problems... plus I wanted the all metal deep seeking mode and the thresh hold

well got the AT back last night and took it out for a trial run. Man what a difference. It behaves totally different to before i sent it in. It much more stable (used to sound real scratchy in pro mode) was either full signal or no signal now i have a tone from full to faint (for the deeper signsls). So well done Garrett, not game to dunk it though just in case ..... and at $50.00+ postage from AUS it gets expensive..... already cost me $150.00 for returns. At least Garrett paid for the return post from US- thanks Garrett

Weak point for leaks seem to be the seam on control box screen, especially on older models.

Ask Garrett to check that area.

Good luck and Good Hunting

Denny
