AT PRO DOWN UNDER????

Big Hi old Katz,I'm using the pro, both my mate and I bought one, thank god we got good ones without any trouble, very happy with them with no complaints, our sniper coils are in transit as we speak and have been really hanging out for that,I still have my old rocking horse {the 2500} and wont part with that,my mate had a Whites V3 and once he used the At pro the v3 was sold, his recovery rate tripled and he hasn't looked back,we mainly relic hunt and these machines love our old coins,we hit an old vacant house site,,early 1800,,on the side of the road on our gold Fields, this is one of those places that you look at and know its been flogged to death for years, cars driving past gorking at us and thinking these guys must be dreaming,we decided to go low and slow, pro mode ,zero no discrimination,GB 95,I managed to sniff out a cricket belt buckle in very good nick and a brass pendant all engraved and a old keg tap,my mate got a brass cone which we cant work out what it is,no coins and not much else worth talking about, but in saying all that these targets were all in amongst heaps of old rusted scrap tin and steal buried for over 100 years and hadn't seen the light of day until the at pro hunted them out,I see on a few forums here in OZ that there is a few using the Pro ,lots of people ask me about it but haven't seen another one on the Fields yet, wont be long though, once they saw my Ace 250 every man and his dog had one, still haven't got a nugget with it yet ,,but if I happen to walk over one it will be mine you can bet your balls on that,,,best of luck Bazza :beers:

I've had to send mine back to garett tried it n the beach wouldn't pick anything deper than about 2inches at he waters edge was totally hope less, my mate folowing behind me using his minelab excal found an 18ct gold ring :(

did a comparison with the ACE 250 in my garden and the ACE won hands down.
Hope to get the AT PRO BACK next week so will try again

hi old katz, I also use the AT Pro down under, have used it in both Aus and Kiwi land and have found it to do great in both.I live just out of Tamworth so mostly hunt this region ,find it mostlly ground balances around the 80-85 + zone....I have the US model which suits me due to most older coins reading over 75 ..in the high tone. Away from there at present but when I get back Im going to buy a shovel as Im digging holes that go deeper than the top of the digger that came with the unit ...Ive got one of the first units which does the falsing thing on occassion when shaken , but I dont do rap dancing when detecting, so its not a problem for me, Im not sending my unit in till winter sets in to get this fixed. Overall really impressed with th AT

Got one on the way, cleared customs today, so should have it early next week. Can't wait to give it a try. Just hope it's a good one without the falsing issue.

Cheers,

Well, I really appreciate your feed back.
If an when I ever get back down your way I'm bringing may Ace 250 and buy
a Whites GMT gold nugget hunting machine. Heard good things about the GMT.
It seems the AT Pro is ok for coins etc but good only for casual gold nugget hunting.
Looks like you got to have something stronger say in the 50khz range for serious
nugget hunting.
Katz
Well, time for a bite to eat.

Hi Old Katz, why do you say the AT Pro is only good for casual nugget hunting? I am asking cause i'm trying to find out on this site if it's suitable for serious nugget hunting or if i should go for a dedicated Gold Machine.....same 15khz range as the Garrett Scorpion stinger-been reading great on rings but i have not found much real life info on nuggets yet...any thoughts appreciated

The AT Pro operates at 14khz and will pick up gold nuggets and thats fine; so does the WhitesMXTbut serious nugget hunting (for the smaller
and deeper nuggets) you want the higher khz and that would be the Whites GMT or the Mindlab705 that operates at a MUCH HIGHER
frequency. There's nothing wrong with the AT Pro but like the Whites MXT it was only built as an all around detector for coins, jewlery and gold nuggets.
If you want to just hunt gold nuggets then you want the Mindlab or the GMT or any detector with at least 50khz abd up.

Hi all
I just put together my AT pro today. When opening the battery compartment to check the batteries I dropped the battery holder on the floor and it broke. Very fragile. Does anyone know if any other Garrett 4 battery holder will fit my machine. Broke before I could even use it
Regards
George

My AT Pro finally arrived yesterday, looks really good. I haven't had a chance to field test it yet but I did some air tests on our coins we have out here and I was suitably impressed. With the factory settings our $1.00 coin registered at 10", same with the $2.00 coin, I increased the sensitivity to max and both coins registered at 12". So far no falsing issue but we will see how it goes in the field. In the quick start guide in the manual it says turn on, select the mode, adjust sensitivity and discrimination and start detecting - it doesn't mention ground balance!! Do you have to ground balance or is it automatic??? The only other criticism is the coil cable connector - what a mongrel of a thing to connect to the control box:ranting: Hopefully the weather will be ok for the weekend so I can give it a workout.:detecting:

Cheers,

I'm really curious as to how the AP Pro handles the mineralized soil down there; I understand the Aussi soil
is really harsh so it must be a real challenge for any detector. I didn't know the AT Pro had some falsing issues.
I'm glad I decided to wait before buying. It won't be long though and the flaws will be worked out.:)-)
Katz

regards everybody
From first days January I use then ATPRO first period to the sea on terrestrial middle mineralized, any problem, terrestrial in automatic lifting / lowering spool (pumping) MD is automatically adjusted to terrestrial and to the salt sea, I use maximum sensibility, if it is not iron no false signal
Depth coin, "half = (13 mms.) diameter, terrestrial hole among 9 /10" (thumbs) with hole terrestrial open good sound, hole with coin and closed with damp earth it doesn't lose signal / sound, improves also rather with terrestrial 50% mineralized
Very valid Atpro, I have not had problems I lack construction and I am fortunate
I attach photo dimension coin used for test
I address e-mail i1jab@fastwebnet.it for more direct information
