AT Pro Coil Connection Is it really that hard to do?

Jason in TN

New member
I find the connections to be no harder than any other detector on the market. I do not know why every one has such a problem getting them hooked up. Here is a very short video i did it is snowing hard here nothing better to do. Take a look it is not going to take all day to get it done. Took me about 16 seconds to take it off and put it back.

It has a hard rubber piece that will only allow it to go in one way you wiggle it until it goes and that is it. If it is turned backwards it will not go in it is really that simple.

For those that have a hard time with it , after its connected put a alignment mark with a line
or some painted dots for reference points.

Great! Just got my AT PRO today and I had no problems at all.

The connector is a bit different but since I have an Infinium, I was used to it.

The connector was nice and greasy like my Infinium

Just put mine together too and I didn't have any particular problems plugging in the plugs. I'm not sure how tight I got the lock rings but since I never plan on taking this AT PRO into the water I'm not too concerned. Wish the had the headphone jack facing forward though. Looks like there is going to be a lot of strain on the headphone plug making that 180 degree bend. I think I am going to tape down my headphone cable to keep it from getting bent to hard and also to try and keep the headphone cable out of the line of sight to the meter.

Too bad it is so dark out now - can't get out to the test garden and still be able to read the meter. I hope the weather is decent next weekend so I can get out at least once with it before everything is covered in snow.

Depends on the unit. Some are harder than others. Just because yours was easy doesn't make them all easy. I know several folks who spent 30 minutes or more trying to hook their's up. I had to use needle-nosed pliers to get mine on and screwed down.

You do not need to over tighten them the Oring is what makes it water proof just snug it up. Put the cord behind the shaft and it will not get in the way of the screen. May want to think about changing the headphones where you can plug any phones into it I did. Cut the cord right at the phones and installed a plug from radio shack that will accept a normal headphone plug mounted it back at the arm rest and you are good to go. My Black Widow phones work great.

I don't plan on taking mine off anymore unless Garrett comes out with different coils. Everybody is going to have a different experience with them depending on the unit, size of their fingers, manual dexterity, folks with arthritis or other problems. It ain't "one size fits all" by a long shot.

Bill sorry to hear you had problems they are just different than most connectors. They are the same connector on every AT so yours may have had a little glue pr paint on the threads the first time. Should be a snap once you get use to it. I can change it just as quick or quicker than most coil plugs. 16 seconds off and on ain't bad think I could do better though if Garret needs a pit crew I may be able to shave a couple seconds off my time.

That is if the pins line up correctly and don't bend. Nothing that comes off a production line is universal.

Bill

Pins will be real durable only go in one way. Will take quite a bit of pressure to bend them. The way the plug fits you can only put it in one way. This type pins and plugs have been used on waterproof connections for years they are not something new. I have a Aquasound that has the same type connection that was made over 15 years ago still works fine.

I have the headphone cable adapter on mine, it is about a foot long. Detector does sound better with both my Killer Bees and Black Widows.

a royal pain getting them lined up properly the 1ST TIME...........

The negative crap spreads like the flu...Ole' Uncle Willy, with his post already made some people cancel their order out fear of the little connector...oh my God....C' mon people get a grip.

Geez frigin wimps...

It really is easy after you do it a time or two just different. I do not really care if people cancel there orders or not I am not here to sell detectors. Just could not understand what the problem was my self. So I decided to see if there was one and I still do not see one. In my opinion the connectors work great just like they should. Every one has there right to a opinion though.
