Sailorman do you recomend the AT pro or the AT gold, I've been looking to some instructional videos and seems to me that the AT gols is more capable machine or is just the presentation on the videos.

Since I have no experience with the AT-Gold it would be hard for me to be impartial!!! I bet John could compare them well or a few others who have both. I wish I had both...

It would seem to me to depend more on what targets you're looking for and where you hunt. That and personal preference. I'd like a threshold on the AT-Pro if I could get it. :detecting:

Hi,

I am 3 years into this hobby and at 55 years young I just wish I had begun digging years ago! :). I purchased an AT Pro when it first hit the market and had 'coil" issues so I was turned off by it initially. The customer service wasn't the best either. I have had great success with my White's MXT Pro but that sucker weighs a ton so I am going to give the Garret another try. My niche is historical items and I have had great success in getting onto private residences and other historical sites here in sunny San Diego. Soon however it will be hot and I will refocus on the beach with the many other folks who are here vacationing with their detectors. My question is this: I have the standard coil on the Garett and would like to size up. Our beaches here sadly are quite trashy but I also want to cover a lot of turf. I have a day job so my only time to get out is on Saturdays-if I push too many Sundays I could be a divorced gal :) :) :). Then again that would free up Sunday-just kidding. Any thoughts on a coil? Thanks and sorry for rambling. I am new to the forum and realy appreciate everyone's advice!

I am new to the forum and would appreciate advice from any and all. I have the Garret AT Pro which I have to be honest and say I haven't used much. I bought it right as soon as it hit the market when Garret had "coil" issues and unfortunately my experience with their customer service wasn't the best either. I also bought the White's MXT Pro and loved it so much I stuck with that machine. I have had great success on historical sites and parks here in older parts of San Diego but this machine is heavy and I am a tiny gal with a wing span of a sparrow so.......Although my love is finding items of historical value come summer (with the heat) I will be forced back to our lovely beaches with the oodles of other detectorists so I am going to give the AT Pro another chance and need advice on a coil . I know there are not a lot of options as yet so do I go with the largest DD coil or go with a smaller one given sadly our beaches are quite trashy. Thank so any info!

I have a wrecked right shoulder and use a Swingy Thingy with both my detectors. It makes all the difference in the world for me. The 5x8 DD coil on the AT-Pro makes a difference in the nose weight compared to the stock coil. It's also a darn good coil and I use it on the AT-Pro most of the time now. Easier on the shoulder and easier to use wading in the water. It does cover less ground per swing but I'm not in a big rush.

Just something to consider.

Thank you, I have the same problem with my sholder but I made special harness for my detectors and I can swing the etire day with no problem.
it is made of seatbelt from a car so it is adjustable to the right leng and all I do is to hold it in place wile swing it.

Maybe better late then never, thanks for all your replies.
I owe you all an apology as i rejoined the forum again.
Guess I just pulled my itchy 'hair' trigger back then to leave the forum.

I did eventually buy an ATPro as a backup for my eTRAC.
Based on some air testing i did, Its arguably the best detector in its price range, simple to operate, short learning curve and can detect certain small jewelry my eTRAC will walk over.

Thanks again you all for the replies!
