Are the ones who just lurk the SMART ones?

Happens on fishing sites all the time. It happened to me. Talk about a hot spot and BAM its packed with guys.

With fishing, it doesnt really matter, but with metal detecting, well, coins dont grow back. Once theyre gone, theyre gone forever.

I cringe when I look around the internet and see specific names of locations being made. I feel bad for the poster.

I guarentee you when someone sees a "finds pic" of a seated dime in a coin holer and the writing on the holder says something like "XYZ park 4-3-13" theres gonna be a lot more traffic at XYZ park and you just blew up your own spot.

Its like the old saying, dont GIVE a man a fish.....TEACH him. Thats why Im here, for learning tactics, techniques, and motivation. I get a lot more out of this site by participating with all of you who I consider to be my metal detecting colleagues and contemporaries.

Just make sure Geo Tagging is turned off on your phone. It's usually under the camera settings. I always keep my GPS off. If I need to turn it on for something like Yelp... or Google Maps... I will. When Im finished, I turn it back off.

I posted one of my pictures on a site where you can read this info. As you can see below, with GPS location and Geotag off, they can't see a bloody f&^% thing. Let's educate everyone so weasels like this can be left in the cold, once again.

I think that we should post pictures of all those parks and places that are full of pull tabs and nails and show a seated dime and a gold ring and say that was the last find at that trashy park...let them dig the pull tabs and clean it up.. then take a picture of
a civil war site where no detecting is allowed and and say it is open to detecting. The feds love to make a big deal out of detecting in those kind of places....To me the fun of detecting is the hunt, finding someplace that produces for you...I tell all my detecting
buds where to go, but that is different than lurking and trying to take advantage of someone elses efforts....Oh well, it is what it is, someone is always trying to benefit from some one elses efforts.

Good luck keeping it a secret,

eek
