Are the beach cleaning machines getting all jewelry?

little buggy and emptying the trash barrels if the machine picks up lost car keys and house keys every day. If he knows, and says they find them in the hopper every day, then that will tell me they go thru the trash with a fine tooth comb.

O. K a lot of you don't believe these things can get it all, up to a certain depth. Take the time to view the slide show were it shows the screening, looks to be

When I was at the beach on the 4th of July I followed the beach cleaner.
I found a few shallow targets. I also checked one of the piles of trash he left for the dump truck and found nothing. I heard they will get fired if caught going thru the trash, because they are city workers and on the clock. I would not waste my time going over the trash the next time I go out.

[size=medium]Some of the Towns here at the Jersey shore have tried to use them....problem is from the municipal workers that I have spoken to, due to the fine sifting features on the machines....they tend to have a plethora of mechanical problems....Atlantic City bought 2 of them 5 years back used them one season and now they sit rusting in the utility yard....the workers that I know told me that they were constantly jamming up and throwing belts etc....too many moving parts I guess
(moving parts + Sand = high maintenance) So AC sticks with the reliable Barber beach rakes towed by a tractor. It does a good job of picking up all the larger trash that can be seen and leaves all of the coins and jewelry, foil bottle tops, Corona caps, pull tabs, for us to dig.....so take heart sandpiper this might be the case with your local municipality eventually....HH....Brian

Spoke w/ a friend last night. Started talking about beach detecting. Found out this friends brother owns a couple of tow behind rakes, and cleans some local beaches. Basically he said his bro does get goodies in the rake, although it varies w/ the screen size used. Stony beaches require a larger screen so more goodies escape. If it doesn't sink below the rakes cleaning depth, it will not be there after the man with the rake visits the beach.....
