Are probes a good idea?

In my case, I don't actually use it as a "probe". I'm precise enough pinpointing,
I don't need to. It's my non invasive digger. I dig almost everything with it.
I'll sometimes feel it hitting the object when I first stick it down, but that's
not really the intent. I pop the ground up like a dinky earthquake, grab the
item, and stomp it back down. As mentioned , for me, I do less damage to
lawns with the probe than I do a regular digger.

I just picture the coin rolling off the side of the probe while trying to pluck it out of the ground. I have always dug but might give the probe a try. Is there a youtube video of someone using a probe to recover something? Right now we are buried under 3 feet of snow so this is all I have to do right now... :sadwalk:

I don't usually pluck it out with the probe. In many/most cases, I use the pinpointer
to locate it, and then I just grab it. The probe just parts the ground for me so
I can get in there. But it just depends how deep, how small the object, etc..
Sometimes I still have to dig around the hole a bit to pinpoint the object
with the pinpointer if it's real small.
But I just wallow it out a bit bigger using the probe.
To me, the main advantage to using the probe is instead of cutting out a
plug, I'm just popping the ground up, and the sod stays in place pretty much.
As mentioned, it seems to do less grass damage for me, because I'm not
having to replace a plug which for me always seems to be more noticeable
after I'm done. Closing up a probe hole, I'm just mashing it all back down
again, and it ends up usually looking cleaner.
But, whatever works.. I'm not saying the probe is better than a digger, I just prefer
it myself. For some a digger might work better if that's what they are used to.

not sure about the lcd on the flux capacitor... there are many sites that sell them in kit form or complete. i found a ton when i searched for that pic.
