Are Metal Detecting Clubs Good For The Hobby Or A Liability:shrug:

Thanks Marcomo. I figured this topic is worthy of a lot of discussion. There are lots of opinions out there regarding club metal detecting. It's good to see everyone is also civil with their responses.

( TOM ),

I been in a club for many years.
I was president for 2 years. Very active.
Every spring we would have a garage sale at one of the members house.
That money would go for many things. The one thing was a spring picnic for new members. It was a learning picnic.
We would help them learn their detector.
Teach ways to retrive the target.
Take out all junk you find.
Everything about the code of ethics.
We all had fun and learned something. A nice bunch of food. A great time getting to know each other.
We also pushed that NO ONE WAS BETTER THAN THE NEXT PERSON. We were all their to help and enjoy the hobby.
So after over 20 years in a club, I am not as active as I once was, but, others have taken over and carry on with what we all were tought.
Our dues was $20.00 a year, BUT,, we had great prizes and good food. and fun hunts.

Ken: so now you are merely a member of the online Internet "clubs". I bet that if the internet was not invented, you would still be going to monthly meetings. In other words, one has merely replaced the other. As I see you have over 1,000 posts.
