Are fairgrounds good areas to hunt?

I don't even have my detector yet and I am already making a list of places I want to hunt with my son as soon as the temp rise.
Are fairgrounds good to hunt? The county fairground in my town is HUGE many many acres of grass parking, places where concessions were set up, plus rides etc.....and this fairground is well over 100 years old. I need to find out if I can get permission to hunt there.

It's good to list and it's good to ask questions.

Fairgrounds are extremely trashy and not a good place to MD if you are new at MD'ing. Even a seasoned MD'er can get discouraged.

We all love tot lots. Fairly clean because we all hunt them, yet very rewarding. Good place to start.

If you do hunt the fairgrounds-- Hit the parking lots, Search them in a grid pattern. Like the guys have said they are tough for beginners, but they will hold, coins and rings.
That should be a goldmine if it hasn't been hunted to death before.

Bill
I have saw people there w/detectors, but this is a huge place, I don't think it is possible they hit it all

You just might find a whole bunch of filled in holes when you finally gets there. There are lots of lurkers here. :)

Agree. I did some searching on my map programs and a few other places from the map that was shown of the fairgrounds. I could be there before you if I want.......:yikes:

I would think so - it's getting harder in my area to find grounds to hunt. The best way to find out is to try the area.
If you do good, then that's good. If you don't do so good, that doesn't mean other fairgrounds are not so good.
Just like parks, some that I hit I get some goods here and there while others seem like dump grounds, and others yet the good finds are far and few.

That's true but one vever knows how long those other people have been hitting it - perhaps for decades. Detectors have been around since 1931 - but it's still worth a shot. No place is ever hunted out. I'd get there soon.

It's a yank site, with a yank brand of detector that most Aussies look down on!:clapping: While they're running around with an Aussie brand of detector, thinking that the sun shines out of it, I'm cleaning up and can talk about any site or unique tricks that the Ace has over it, without creating competition for myself.:csflag::thumbup:
