What's the deal with you.........

no i'm not advertising for anyone, i've never even heard of them. After using the ace for several weeks, we are already thinking of upgrading....after searching ebay and trying to find the best price on a higher end MD i had questions on things i know nothing about. If this one is decent and the price is right, then i would consider it.

Everytime you endorse the machine you use, you are advertising.

i was asking for an opinion from a site i THOUGHT was for talking about detectors.

Run away Ace very fast. Stick to name brands like on the main forums. At least you can get support when you need it.

I don't think it would be a upgrade. The cheap cost may be a good indication.Name brands would be the way to go. I would stay away from the Sea biscuit. Ron

I was just curious so I went on Ebay and checked through this seller activities and products. They sell mostly microscopes, telescopes, and radio cameras. They have a shipping delay, which could be a logistics nightmare far as getting any item serviced. The odd 12volt battery doesn't seem to last that long. One of their detectors had a buy it now price of 119.00 and looked cheap. They advertised it could detect a small coin at 35cm. There were unsatisfied customers in their feed back reports. I would buy one of the big four metal detectors because of their quality and service. Ron

Eric do you remember watching ToolTime when Tim the toolman would say something inappropriate and Al would hold up this phone number for the viewer's to see. Ace 150 owner's E-R-I-C Ron

I bought a Seben Extreme on eBay in 4/06, carried it with me from Florida to Turkey where I'm living now. I still have not yet used it. Maybe, if I had seen this site first, I wouldn't have bought it, but I do have it now. I read all the posts in this thread and nobody has said anything about it that is meaningful or informative. Is there any one of you who has actually used one? I'll probably just sell mine. I was told that they are illegal in Turkey, but just this morning, An Istanbul company has a large display ad in the newspaper for three models of MD with 4 year warranty. Is AREX.UE-16 familiar to anyone? Just saying it's no good, but with no information, has no meaning to me. Thanks, Dave Silverman, Antalya, Turkey

Here are a few reviews I found on the net:

"This is my first detector and construction seems prety cheap-plastic,light tubes.BUT you get what you pay for -it was about $100US compared to $400 detector. The wire connection to the head was messed up so I'll probably have to take it apart andhardwire it.It doesn't find anything so far but maybe no connection. They are right-manual is in bad English translation, I couldn't understand it.I'll post more when I figure the thing out!"

..."Does detect deep but is not very good at pinpointing small objects as the head is large, so you are digging around a lot more than detecting."

It does not seem like it is even worth the $100 price tag. My advice would be to save up your money and buy a new or used Ace 250.

I guess for the 100.00 at least you know what not to buy.Look at it this way no matter what kind of detector you purchase it will be a improvement.Put it on Ebay for parts.

Yes, but most old adages are not worth the paper they are wrapped in. Old adages are, obviously, old. Didn't you ever get a bona fide bargain in your life? I have - many times. No, you don't necessarily get what you pay for. Sometimes you get a great deal more.

Hi David.
I haven't used one to detect with, but I did get to handle one at a local auction. I found it to be quite heavy and unbalanced. I was surprised that they are so heavy. I think that it would be tiring to swing for any length of time. I did read a report from Saben about a fellow who was using one around the Black Sea area. He was making some good finds, but indicated that the discrimination on it wasn't so good.
If you already have one, take it out and use it so that you can form your own opinion about it. If you aren't that keen on it, maybe you can find enough Eros's to buy a better machine while getting to learn the hobby. If you can hunt at a beach, it might be best, as targets should be a lot easier to recover, especially if the discrimination isn't so good. Just remember one thing. When ever you beach hunt, regardless of how good a detector is, it's best to dig most targets anyway, as jewellery can come up anywhere on your discrimination.
I have never heard of the AREX and consider that good news. I'm glad that detectors are made by more manufacturers, than mostly just the ones found on the findmall site. It would be interesting to find out more about them.
