Anyone have info on the Shadow X5 compared with Tesoros..

All detectors have their plus and minus factors and are only as good as the operator and of course some do better in some parts of the states due to mineralization factors.
I am sure if you asked the favorite machine of 10 competent detectorists you may get 10 different machines or for that matter 2 or 3 from one hunter for different situations.
Troy surely had some good ideas and after several tries his units are no longer produced while Tesoro's has been around forever produces an excellent machine and backs it up with a lifetime warranty..grab your favorite and go getum as in the hands of experienced operators many detectors excel...

Himself and Monte used to lay the facts and experience down. They are both serious diggers and didn't hesitate to share loads of information. I reckon a pretty good diggin fact guide could be made by consolidating all their posts. Most likely Ralph got burned out on all the forum BS that sprang up a few years ago. Hope he's doing well!

I have been using the Shadow X5 for a few years now and recently purchase a Cibola, so I think I can offer my opinion here. I have never once been disappointed with the performance of the X5 and every time I try one of my other detectors I am going back for the X5 the next time out. It is a high quality machine that doesn't leave much behind. Compared to the Cibola, the performance is about the same. If you just compare price to performance, I would say that the Cibola is a clear winner, but there is more to a detector than that. I don't worry about the X5 when it starts to rain or when it gets dirty, the knobs on the X5 stay put, and there are some nice features on the X5 that I miss on the Cibola. Also, it seems to me that the Cibola has more of a "cone" detection pattern and the X5 is more of a wide pattern, even with the 9' concentric. Maybe someone else can chime in here about the winding pattern of each. Maybe the X5 has a counter wound Rx coil as opposed to a counter wound Tx bucking coil?
Also, I prefer the discriminator on the Cibola as I think it does a better job (just an opinion). When it comes down to it, the Cibola will find everything the the X5 will (except all metal) for a lot less.
