Anyone have info on the Shadow X5 compared with Tesoros..

I tried posting some questions on the Shadow forum but didn't generate many replies. I know this is a Tesoro forum but you seem like a good bunch, like on the friends and finds forum and thought I might get a few replies. I haven't given up on getting a Tejon someday :) Anyone ever own the X5 and how is it on coins and relics compared to the Tejon/other Tesoros. Also is the coin check better on the Tesoros? One other ? does the Tesoros talk to you better than the Shadows? Just wanted to get any input on it. Thanks. Also may talk my buddy into a Tejon so we can trade back and forth. I appreciate you all taking a look thanks!

Ever heard the term ( A shadow of its former self ) Why would you even name a detector SHADOW? Sorry I just don't get it. I'm not trying to be a wise guy here but if your the kind of guy that gets scared of his own shadow then I would definitely go for a Tesoro!
Cheers!

The X5 compares very well to any other top of the line unit out there. Once you learn it you'll be very happy with its performance.

Have you been to the Troy forum? www.troycustomdetectors.com

I ended up spending some time with Troy this weekend up in his hotel room. We both attened the TOP DOG relic hunt up in Easton, PA. We ended up taking apart an X5 detector to fix one of the pots. Let me tell you his unit is TOP NOTCH. He uses tighter tolerances on all of his components then the other manufactures. He also uses 10 turn POTS instead of the 3 1/4 used on the Tersoros'. I like having the finer tuning and the 10 turns are quite a bit more expensive. I'll be getting his new machine he is working on. He is tight lipped about it but after hearing the details it will be worth it.

There are many fine units out there. I prefer no meter. Cibola, Vaquero, Tejon, T2, and the new F75 seem to be top notch!

Never in the history of metal detecting has the consumer had so many top of the line choices!!

I have been to the top dog and the div hunt and saw that machine do very well, since I am a new owner of Tejon I didn't fell too comfortable with and used my XLT. Bashing just not need, I am sick of going to web sites and people bash what machine they use it not just the machine it the person and the machine that make good finds
not to get off on a rant just making my peace.

and I apologize if the initial post seemed rude.
I got to hunt a few weeks ago with some friends. My buddy Donnie found 3 1700's coppers and a 1756 2 Reale with the IDX Pro, 2 days prior at one of the sites we hit. My other buddies were using the Quattro and Tejon. I had the X5. We all had a great time and all of us did well. The IDX pulled a deep 1822 Large Cent, the Quattro an 1871 Canadian nickle, the Tejon located the shoe buckle and I got a few buttons in the middle of the trash of the old homesite. I was impressed with all the detectors and since I have used the X5 a few times I stopped comparing and just figured I'd enjoy it. I know for sure I would be happy with the Tejon or the other two detectors and when I get the money will add at least one to my arsenal. As was said there are a lot of great detectors and I'm glad there are some great sites to share finds, comparisons, stories and friendship, thanks for looking and have a good one! Here are the group finds and some stuff I found with the X5.

Sorry for the late response. This post may help answer some of your questions. It is a 2003 post by Monte, the most knowledgeable person in metal detecting. Link

The link is to a field test of two Tejons, and comparisons to an X5, Ralph posted on this forum not long after the Tejon was released. It's a very interesting read, and sparked a bit of controversy when he posted it:).

If your post was directed to me, I talked to Troy on the phone five or six times, exchanged several emails with him and was invited to hunt with him, but I owned an X5 for 18 months and compared it to several other detectors in side by side tests and didn't need a "story" as to it's capabilities.

The test I linked to on my website was done, and posted, by Ralph Bryant. Ralph has been involved with detectors and detecting a long time and although he doesn't post much anymore he's been a regular on Findmall since Gary started the first forum, the original BBS forum, on this site on February 26, 1997. Link is to a search for posts by Ralph but the results are only a fraction of what he posted. The others, along with a lot more, were lost when one of the servers crashed.
