Anyone have any thoughts on a f-4 vs and I.D. Edge

I realy like the edge in the iron trash one of the best actually but was wondering if the f-4 is any better I see it only ground balances in all metal.

Might be the Edge is Better in the trashy iron minerals quite common at mid 19th century house sites?

any one have any input thanks

Keith

I have only used my Edge on 2 sites, I was impressed with the Edge and wonder why I don't see any posts now about the Edge anymore, must be all the new detectors that are out now.

Never used a F 4, but did see one that a friend was using, he did not keep it long for some reason, it looked cheaper to me and not as tough...
The main reason that I bought the Edge was, I have the CZ 70,CZ5 & CZ 3d and I hunt with one to two others that use CZ's and on small lots, it hard to keep 75 feet between detectors. The CZ 6a that my friend was using, and my Edge played well together last Sunday.
The Edge is not as deep as the CZ's, but there are times when a detector can be to deep..
We hunt a lot of old house sites, with the house gone and the lot bladed.
I like the Edge and the 6" coil or the CZ and 5" coil for these lots...
These are 2 units that I hope First Texas don't quit making.
They are not perfect, but what is, and I have used a lot of units....

It's a good toss up between the two.

I feel the Edge is better in trash, and iron trash. This is not to say the F4 falls down on this, but the Edge does have the edge.

One does need to weigh the differences between the two. The F4 has a lot of performance for the dollar, and coils for it are real inexpensive. For something like $450., one can have a super good detector, and all the coils one needs for detecting. The ID Edge is going to set you back a bit more.

My preferences are toward the ID Edge. Auto GB, and build quality, just to mention a couple of items.

water hunting with the Edge before it turned cold? I know you talked about it.

Its supposed to hit the mid 40's here on Sunday. Hmmm...

Soak them 9V's in a cup of Jim Beam, remove batteries, slug down, put this on, and you'll be good to go.

Swans I worry about. Competition for open water!!

I think im about through for awhile on testing out detectors ive tried everything under the sun to hunt iron infested civil war period house sites and it comes down to more of just checking iffy targets than anything when you're in dense iron. and the 1236 and edge seem to make it easier to hear the iffys in my opinion? The f-4 peeked my curiosity but not being able to ground balance in disc tells me it dosent have a very elaborate target id system since it takes an peset to keep it accurate on a target. it takes abit of processing to keep an id correct in varying ground balnce settings and the plug in coil why? does it cost that much more to just add a screw on type?

think ill pass as of now.

no telling what that man could do in time.I would like to see and edge with a good all metal threshold based mode for that little extra punch in open woods hunting a good all metal mode not like there feeding us here lately like the t-2 and f-75 have or even the x70 has a weird sound in the prospecting mode. I want an all metal mode like on a whites 6000 or 5900 super smooth and stable . keep the low frequency and target id in all metal and you would have a relic hunting dream!!

well for me any way Ha-Ha

the more you learn it. It has subtle little nuances that trigger in you're mind hey check that signal out a little more. Its deep and sensitive when your in the woods hunting isolated targets that are deep real deep will bounce iron but seem to have that round sound and a soft modulated whisper sound. But remember depth isnt everything the edge can hold its own for the most part but its really shows of in the iron laced sites were the cz will be leaving targets in nails.

thanks again for the reply
