Haha I agree. I purchased mine right when I got my first detector, but I've tried to not use one.hatpin said:I didnt think they were necessary until I got one . I have the Garrett too .

I get along just fine without one. If im going to spend that kind of money, i'll buy a compadre, another coil, or something. $120 - $150 or more for one of them just seems like a rip off for what it actually does. This is just my opinion, i'm not criticizing those who use them, so nobody has to freak out over it... haha

If you are a relic Hunter in the woods or in a plowed field I can see where you could get by without one.
I'm a turf hunter. If I forgot my pinpointer I would turn around and go home.
Can't imagine not having one....

Yes, and our holes are just as neat as those who do use them. Target in the plug, you have to break it up to get it with a pin pointer just as much as you do without one. I knew some would go over the top justifying why you absolutely must have one because they do.That's why replying to threads like this is so touchy. God forbid you have a different opinion because it will be wrong. I have never had a problem of any kind not using a pin pointer anyplace I have hunted. From parks, nice pristine lawns, to fields, not one single problem and my holes are left just as good. I know it must be just amazing that we are able to do that... lol.Nauti Neil said:jld66 said:I don't. Yeah, they are a bit pricey for the maybe few minutes they save hunting for a half day or so.
