Anybody know what this is:shrug:

I was thinking about that.

But I'm scared the dog that left that thing may come back:look:

HH,

Hey Tabdog.

Just thought I'd share this in case it's useful. Not found a meteorite myself yet, but I'm still looking :look:.

The link (I think) should take you to the thread I posted reply to last year. It has a link to a site that might help clarify if it is or isn't a meteorite, and what it is if it is.

Have you determined whether it is a meteorite or not?

No. It is probably tot lot wood chip trash.

I wouldn't know how to figure out if it was a meteorite or not.

I think there's only two documented meteorite findings in the state of Arkansas.

Sounds like trying to win the lottery.

I've never bought a lottery ticket:shrug:

HH,

Well, you never know. Tabdog, I got a hit in the backyard this morning that was a dead ringer for a dollar, I dug, I dug, and I dug. At about 13 inches I hit a metal/aluminum plate. I started to think I unearthed a strong box. At this point the hole is a size that you could shoot a basketball into it. I carefully proceeded to dig around it and exposed an edge, very thin edge, I then reach in and yanked out about a foot long piece of siding. Blahhhh... I only had my sensitivity at 2 o'clock, not sure why it continued to tell me there was a buck in that hole. I will continue to practice, continue to dig, and one day get a prize.

Ha Willie,

I've had the same experience with the siding.

Those are sucker signals.

You dig with anticipation, and end up with trash. It can be a frustrating experience.

I can't dig but so much and I'm done for.

Now I reluctantly leave most of those ones that are just too deep.

Artifact and relic hunting are the exceptions. Then I have digging tools that make an easier job of it, plus I'm prepared to go deep.

I heard one guy balme his detector for doing that to him. I think any MD can be fooled in those cituations.

That's another reason some people just quit the hobby. Instead of learning from the experience, they just give up.

That gives us more nice used MDs to choose from:)

It's a good thing, or there would be less booty for us:beers:

HH,

I saw a show on tv recently that said there are diamonds in Arkysaw. I think they said a volcano erupted and it spewed out all kinds of stuff. Could be your piece is from an ancient eruption. Am I mistaken? I bought a piece of rock from ebay that is supposed to be what a large meteorite spews into the air after hitting the earth. I cannot remember the name of it right now but I am looking at it as I type. It is like black glass and has a rounded end to it which would be the front as it hurled through the atmosphere. Pretty cool HH GregM

Not to get you hopes up, but I think it looks very much like a small meteorite. Check out my website for some pictures of the ones I have found. The only think that makes me think it might not be a meteorite is the fact that you said you cleaned it with a wire brush, and that would have caused the crystal to become scratched and show a lot of white. There are some crystal in meteorites that are black, but that means that they were shocked on impact and the Olivine crystal is of poor quality. Are there any bright green spots that you can see?
