Anybody have any luck finding gold rings around the edges of basketball courts?

Years ago a female friend of mine said she was playing basketball at the local court and ended up losing a gold ring. She's not positive she lost it on the court, as she said they also were roaming around the park in general that day. Anyway, I've never hunted the edges of basketball courts in the hopes of a gold ring, but that story has always stuck in my mind and kept me thinking I should try it there. I don't remember her last name and she's since moved years ago, so if I do find that ring it'll be all mine as far as I'm concerned. Just wondering if anybody has any luck finding rings around courts like this? It'll give me some motivation to hunt this spot if I hear about others finding rings around them.

Hey Critter. The one and only ring I have found so far is a silver ring. It was about ten feet from a BB court. I also found a silver bell about six feet away from the ring the same day. I mostly dig aluminum around the courts tho. HH. Matt

Found silver rings,Most always a band, they roll to the edge of the court, and if well landscaped, into the edger cut, same with sidewalks.Several sidewalk rings, one gold, all bands.HH bob.oz

The elementary school here, it's maybe 300 yards down the street from my house, has a small concrete basketball court in the playground. It's not much more than half the size of a regulation court, but in addition to the elementary school students playing on it, teenagers, and some older than teenage, have pickup games there every Saturday and Sunday afternoons when weather allows, and often in the afternoons after school turns out. The goals are only 8 feet or so above the court, which makes dunking the ball easy, and probably the main reason so many pickup games are played there. Since the court was built about 10 years ago I've found several gold and silver rings around it, and also a few gold and silver chains. Photo show school, red X marks the basketball court.

I had a friend once who had a theory that when people go to play basketball, as you know, they tend to place their belongings (jacket, school books, duffle bag, etc...) by the upright basket-ball pole, for safe-keeping. So he theorized that if they had any jewelry (bracelets, rings, necklaces, etc...) that they didn't intend to wear during play, that they'd put it there, for safekeeping, right by the pole. It's human nature, afterall, to place things where there's a standing fixture. And sure enough, he got rings at the schools in my town, by going basket-ball court to basket-ball court, testing this theory. Was it merely coincidence? I dunno. Because, of course, a ring can end up anywhere.

I've thought about this theory whenever I've been at beach volley-ball games too. Because the same human pyschology is there too: All the people getting ready to play, will leave their belongings by either of the two volley-ball net poles: their cell-phone, they're water bottle, etc...... So I've always worked right as close to the poles as I could get, thinking that if someone had jewelry they were going to put in their shoes for safekeeping, or whatever, this would be the exact location they'd be doing it at.

ive found 2 so far .....1-10k and 1-14k....found with whites 5900 using 5.3 in coil......like someone else mentioned these areas are almost always trashy....if you can deal with all the can slaw you have a chance....

I hunt them and Volley ball courts exactly like Tom_in_Ca's buddy does. JB's after hour pickup games location is great advice. Looking for gold rings and chains that 20+ somethings wear...nice big heavy gold chains. Yes there are tons of pultabs and slaw. I found one 14k gold ring right at the edge like bob.oz mentioned, it rang solid nickle and was down in the roots of the grass in the soil about 5" from the edge of the court ...the sidelines sitting and watching areas have been more productive for me than the main sand volleyball court, soccer fields, or any play area for that matter. most of the pickup BB games are in the evening or at night, so eye finds are possible on the path the players travel to and from the court.

Thanks for the input guys. Yes, I can see why they'd sit stuff near the poles and such. Also, I bet many just take off their ring and put it on top of their jacket or backpack or whatever as an after thought before playing at the last second, and then forget about it when they pick up their stuff and off it drops into the grass. I'll let you guys know how I do at this spot as it's right up the street from me.

I've found two rings so far near the courts, a silver and a tungsten carbide so I would say it's worth a shot to check them out. My problem is getting close to the court itself because the rebar in the concrete sets my detectors off like crazy. Maybe if I had a smaller coil and cut sensitivity down a little bit, then I could get right by the edge.

Great spot. It's my favorite in my hometown. Most of the "studs" wear jewelry while they're doing their "pro" activities just like the real players. I not only find rings, but necklaces, stick pins, and other gold jewery.

Go for a lay-up...lose a ring.
I always search the whole perimeter because they can sit or place their belongings anywhere, but I really concentrate on the area behind the backboard out to several yards.

Found this 14k ring about 8-10 yards behind one of these.

SHHHHUSH!!!!!! best kept secret to where to find rings and chains especialy if court has grass around it.plus clad galore after you weed trash out of it.

I lot of pull tabs and some change that roll off the edge.

I once, read a similar post and decide to give it a shot. 2 junkers, 1plated silver, 2 silver and the one with the stones is gold.

HH,Epi

I was doing a search for something else and this popped up so I thought I would bump this thread since after I posted in it 2 months later I mounted the sniper coil, hit another basketball court and found 3 gold rings.
After that, I figured out a few things and went on to find much, much more.
In 1 1/2 years of hunting these courts I have now found enough silver, clad and gold to pay for a couple of my detectors.
