Anybody had the environmental sealing upgrade on their F-75...

i know i am gonna catch some sh** on this one ,but i'm gonna say it any how!..this reminds me of the scene in the movie "cool hand luke"..when all the rest of the road gang are in the trucks out of the rain, and there's newman "standin' in the rain"..talkin' to himself!"..the point is why the f*** would you WANT to detect in a pourin' rain in the first place,if it's a site you can come back to!.beats hell out of me,and i have been detectin' for better than 30 years!..always hunted inland, and never had a rain proof unit,BECAUSE i NEVER needed one!.i got my a** out of the rain!

First thing is this is a option FT give a person, not something you have to do. Do you think if you bought a new car early in the year and later in the year they came out with a seat that is more comfortable you should be able to take it back and get a new style free of charge. I bet if you wanted this done would charge a arm and a leg to have this done. What about Garrett when the GTA 1000 Ultra depth came out and a year or so later they improved it and it was the GTA 1000 with Power master for more depth, but if you wanted this you would have to sell your Ultra depth at a big loss and buy a new Power master. Then it was changed again to the GTA x1000 as it had a better hand grip and never heard if they would do that for free either. I feel FT is being very nice to only charge us $50 if we want it to be weather proof instead of have to sell our original F-75 and buy a weather proof F-75 as it would have cost much more in the end. Like it is said this is something that is a option and not something that has to be done, if it was something that had to be done then I am sure FT would do it for free. I wish other detector manufactures would offer something like this for only $50 as many would gladly do this I am sure.

I feel this environment sealing was something that was never planed on as they wanted to get this detector in the hand of the user and seen on these forums many are out detecting when the weather is not the best with rain, snow or even at the beach where the salt air or spray can ruin a detector so they thought they could improve it. Now this take money to do and probably new design in the housings for all the new ones, so like any company when expense rose they had to raise the price too for the new one. Now FT didn't have to offer to do the older ones for $50, but they were nice enough to do this and if you don't want it done you don't have to, but if you do you are being charged much less then it should have cost as i feel they are doing the labor for free and you are paying for the materials to do this which I think actually less than it should be too. It is a real bargain if you want it done, if not you are not out anything either are you?

$50..

With all the nay sayers complaining about what they think there entitled to, forget to mention that the F-75 was supplied new from the factory, at no charge, environmental covers.

They could have done it the way Minelab handles it, and called it a new version model, and you would have had to sell your old one then purchase the new one.

There's always a few in every bunch that are just not happy unless they can bitxh about something. I wouldn't be a bit surprised that the one's that complain the most either purchased a used one, or better yet, didn't purchase one at all.

I agree its good that Fisher offered us folks the up-grades for a decent price..I will be calling felix with first texas soon..
AS for detecting in the RAIN..Some of us are on a tight scedule and have limited time to Detect..IF I am in the Woods Relic Hunting
and it starts raing trough the trees I dont want to have to pack up unless the Holes are filling up with water..Its just the way i am..james

good point well taken, and i agree in principal with everything you said...i was just stating that I wouldn't feel it was necessary to have the unit sealed for the previously posted reasons...i am NOT a beach hunter, and also feel that hunting in the rain is a miserable undertaking for ME,so therefore if i owned an f-75,i would NOT consider it!..that's is all!

I normally wouldn't reply to such bullcrap, but I'll keep it simple so you will understand.I never said i hunted
in the rain, what i said was i got caught in a downpour, i did tuck control box under my tee shirt, and walked
back to truck a mile or more but it still got wet. Also i started hunting in 1980 so i do understand about hunting
in the rain.

it's ok to hunt in the rain!..I just don't dodge raindrops so good!

doubt is the best machine I have ever used. The response time is unbelievable and its awesome in all metal. My machine performed flawless at DIV as well with out "the environmental upgrade", Day one of DIV had the toughest digging conditions I have ever experienced. I just disagree with having to pay for the upgrade, (never called it a defect). Yes most manufacturer's don't offer an upgrade and most do not come around a year or so later asking for 50 bucks to do it. After thought ? In the "loop" or not Kim it should have been done to begin with.

As far as the problems with the machine itself, I have had none except for the coil cable being to loose at the control box. Its since been corrected. I certainly can appreciate Fisher having to rely on outside vendors for parts, this is something that I do daily. Ultimately it is up to the purchaser of these parts or supplies to insure they are in working order in their product before putting their product on the store shelves. I think it's called quality control. A little more emphasises on this instead of allowing your marketing department dictate the release date for the product would probably have served First Texas best during the initial release of the F75.

What happens when you plan a trip for weeks, drive four hours to get there and then only have X number of hours to hunt before you have to turn around and head back home? If its raining, are you gonna trash the entire trip, wreck the weekend for you and your hunting partners? No, you hunt in the rain. What happens when your site is an hour walk from your vehicle and its sunny when you start out at 8 am but turns to rain around noon? Sure, I have taken plasitc bags to use under these circumstances but you can see your screen with any kind of cover so I want a machine thats weather proof. Not everybody hunts the way you do, dude. Some people dont mind hunting in a little rain. Sometimes the desire and the reward ARE that great.

excellent point!..well taken!..when i made the post,i wasn't thinking about those unique circumstances!..i promise i will think beyond my nose next time!

Hi Steve, I just purchased one and would like any information you can give me about the F-75. I have just purchased a SunRay probe for the detector also.

How well did it perform at DIV hunt with all the iron signals. Do you think this detector will be OK for Hut digging. Hopefully I will be hunting in one of the upcoming DIV hunts. I have never been to one, but I am hopeful.

Thanks for any information you can give me.

Ringfinder ( Denny Morrison)

Hey Denny,

The machine performed flawless at DIV even with the extreme conditions. I saw many other detectors fail the first day but everyone I spoke to that used the F75 had no problems at all. I use the all metal mode 95% of the time and it's awesome. Even in iron rich campsites, hell the VDI readings it gives in all metal have been right just about every time. Dig anything that gives you a reading of 15 or higher, I have dug cuff buttons that have read at 15 on the VDI. When conditions don't allow for the all metal mode (Trashy sites) I do use the discriminate mode, it has worked well too. I use the DE mode, Discrimination set at 7, 3 tones, I like the three tones because the Fisher CZ series used three tones and my old ears got accustomed to them. Start off high on the sensitivity and work it down until the chatter is almost null. The most important thing (IMHO) is to ground balance often, in both good and bad ground, I use the fast grab option to GB and have checked its setting's against the manual GB and it's dead on, once the machine is GB you may want to manually set the GB up a couple of notches to help with ground falsing.
There also is debate on this forum as to whether all metal will actually get you more depth than the discriminate mode, from my own personal observations, I believe the all metal will "see" deeper.
Hope this is some help to you, I am sure there are about 100 or so varying opinions on how to use and set the machine up, this is what works best for me. Good luck with the machine and good luck digging. The sign up for DIV X will be sometime the first of April.

I sometimes hunt in the rain across the street from my house... not in the pouring rain but in the rain. At the local recreation complex a rainy day is the best time to hunt. I cannot see the screen well through the plastic on the rain jacket. The sealed control box is a great thing.

I haven't started out in the rain but many times I have ended up in it heading back to the car. I usually have a baggie for the once in a lifetime coin that might happen along and, if I don't have the covers in my pack, slip that over the display. I leave the battery box cover on all the time.

like everybody else i have been caught in the rain!..don't stick around though,as for me nothing could be more miserable than trying to hunt in it!
