Anybody had the environmental sealing upgrade on their F-75...

Chris(SoCenWI)

Well-known member
I just sent my F-75 in to get the split in the foam handle replaced. Pondering on the $50 for the sealing; anybody have an educated opinion?

Chris

Hey chris..i plan on sending in my new F75 soon just for the water proofing and peice of mind, But i will still use the covers in the rain..relic woods hunting in the mist
I think the upgrade will be worth it to get it sealed..let us know what you think of the new handle, post a pic if possible, theres none out yet..james

If you ever decide to sell having had the mod done would make a difference to buyers.

Tom

If you go to sell it, the first question people will ask you is if it had the upgrades. I'm sending mine in today for the complete makeover. Ron

I also sent in my Minelab so I am sitting here without a detector. Over a foot of snow to shovel today, but I am worried that spring will come and my babies will still be in the shop.

Chris

I feel your pain..I'm not wanting to let go long enough to have the up grade done on the F75..I just got it a month ago.......Its a sweet machine..

I think I'd rather protect the screen with PDA/digital camera overlay and leave the environmental cover off the pod. I enjoy the looks of the machines I use and the cover is taking away part of my hobby pleasure. The seal job would let me leave the cover off more.

To bad all the good looking machines don't have the features I like :detecting: :bouncy: :detecting:

I just wonder if they might tinker with it and not say anything just enough to slow it down???

I hope not low boy..I dont want the Hot rod turned into a volks wagon..I will ask for sure before I send it in..I just wish
I could get the parts and do it myself and it didn't VOID my warranty..It cant be to Bad..I am kinda waiting to see a picture
I read it is a new houseing But does it look the same..????????????..james

I don't know to take this as a joke or accept it. Do you really believe sending in your detector the factory, they would de-tune it ?

Environmentally sealing your unit has absolutely nothing to do with tuning any electrical component. Rest assured it isn't going to happen.

The new F-75 are made better by this upgrade in wet condition as it was found that First Texas is always trying to make their detector better. Now with the new one the price also has increased as we see more then the $50 FT want to do the upgrade for so actually those that have one of the older F-75 which other wise is the same are getting a better deal don't you think? I feel they are giving those the opportunity to upgrade for a very reasonable price. I know of no other detector company that even will give you the opportunity to upgrade if they find they can make it better no matter what the cost is, if you want a upgraded one you had to buy one and then try to sell your old one.
The only ones I have seen that will do some of the freebie is when the part or something like the Minelab XS with the cracking plastic is a actual defective material or part and not something that just just makes it a little better for some that like to hunt in the rain.

I agree with you, Rick. My problem is, I just don't want to be without it for two or so, weeks. HH jim tn

I know you and know your a great guy....and that you wouldnt have made a post like that if you were in the loop.
First of all steve......................you have to consider what a "defect" or an "improvement" is. The enviromental seal is positively an improvement. As far as I know....................there are only two machines out there that came with "weather resistance"...and that was the shadow X5 and X3. also......that was one of the reasons they were a bit pricey. Its time intensive to seal detectors up..and labor isnt free...nor are weather resistant switches. I personally think 50 bucks is a decent deal for the upgrade, as it provides a bit more piece of mind in the field. in no way...shape or form is it a defect..so WHY do you think its bad to charge for it??
As far as any other issues that may occur with the F75........First Texas will fix them for FREE. (defective)
I honestly dont know why some folks are so quick to trash a company or machine because of an issue or two. You have to understand that a LOT of things that can happen are out of the control of the manufacturer. Lets take the split handgrips for instance. the manufacturers make orders with vendors to supply parts to exact specifications. On occasion...a vendor will supply a substandard part to save a buck or two..and the manufacturer takes the blame. Often there is NO way to know if there is even a problem until the product hits the market.
either way Steve........SOMEONE has to pay for things like the enviromental upgrade. With the new machines it will be paid for with a price increase. The old ones that DONT have it..........its an option. simple as that!!! Mine's sealed..............................and is one of the few machines that DIDNT puke the first day of the last DIV. Worth EVERY nickle!!! :) :) :)

Streak,

You are so right , I jumped for joy when i heard about the upgrade, about 10 years ago, while in the best
confederate camp i have ever found , i got caught in a downpour like no other, was using a 1266 , couldn't
keep in dry , it never worked the same. Sent mine back last week for upgrade, told them to go over it
while they had it , they said no problem, I call that great service.

Hey, I got no qualms that Fisher is improving an existing product. Shows they develop products and listen to users. It was a new model and design unlike any prior Fisher. I'm HAPPY to be able to get an upgrade without having to sell my "old" F-75 and buy a new one. Do you think Toyota would upgrade a 2007 Highlander into a 2008 model with an added sunroof and better rubber if you showed up with a check for 5% of your original purchase price?

My grip was fine after 9 months and I didn't have a battery spring problem, but I would much like the seals and weatherstripping. I plan on keeping mine quite a while. :detecting:

I just spoke with Felix and mine is getting boxed up for a trip to TX.

why is it a better deal?..thay are rippin' ya off in the first place!..should have been done with the initially introduced units!.heck!..don't cha think you paid enough already?.hell at the money you paid, they should have thrown in a few shares of their stock too!

(h.h.!)
