Any coil scrubbers out there ? (funny looking experiment going on here):nerd:

Hi Jim,

The ground here is very tame, nothing in it aside specks of iron. When I used detectors that could display the ground conditions, they would read one or two digits away from neutral ferrite readings.

By the way, the unit I am experimenting with is the ACE 250, however had others which were similar in operation as well.

When I use, say the preset coin pgm, it dings and bongs and the cursor is all over the place, with a sens setting of 3ish. Many times when I am/was determined to use the Ace I even ran it lower. I would rarely if ever get a solid lock on any target. I would just put the unit away and finally sold it. The new owner was completely delighted with it, meaning it wasnt defective at all. I know there are sooo many satisfied ace users I just couldnt see why I was having this unstable situation.

I am not complaining about the Ace, I just didnt use it, but a few minutes at a time and put it away.

After attempting to keep the coil in the air some, it seemed pretty good, but I just cant detect this way at all. I needed a spacer to help this old dog keep the coil true throughout the swing. It seems just as deep at the same lower settings but need way more testing to be sure because it seems so impossible to be possible.

The stability is what impressed me the most. Very rarely does it bing/bong anymore and the display isnt all over the place. The cursor doesnt even exist it seems till a target is located by it. Then, the cursor is pretty stable with maybe it moving one notch up or down but not across the entire screen like when scrubbing the coil.

It seems to have something to do with how the coil interfaces to the ground in my area . Perhaps the quirkiness is between the hand-grip and the headfones?

If not for all the company and holiday prep work around here Id be out trying it some more.

From the lack of folks indicating they may also have this happening, I may be an isolated case.

TOny

Styro is cheap if not fee most times

Maybe cut notches in it and just slip
it on the coils on both sides???

Just another thoughth from a brain

Tony,
With the coil elevated , are you reading iron at all ? ....

Here's another idea for you ...Make a few styrofoam blocks all the same hieght .....and glue them onto a coil cover ....Then glue the blocks that the cover is glued to , and glue the blocks to the coil ..... This way you will have the light weight of the styro , with the durability of the coil cover on the ground ... You will also have identical pinpointing since the cover will mimic your coil exactly !!......Just buy an additional coil cover so if the glue screws it up , you have another cover to put on your coil when better soil conditions permit .....Jim

try the Extruded Polystyrene Foam it is real tough and comes in different thickness. http://www.universalconstructionfoam.com/products/styrofoam-eps-sheets/wall-insulation.php

I tried various methods today and settled in on this one. Its inch and a half PVC.

I cut the edges on an angle so I could fit my fat hands in there to mount the straps and also to reduce drag on the ground as I scrub the ground.

I sure hope I dont need to do this over with 2 inch pipe, this is getting old, yet somewhat exciting too.

Thanks for the ideas on making a spacer, I may use them in the future attempts if need be,

Never thought of using a plastic bottle. I guess if you added little aquariam gravel and soapy water you could clean your clad coins as you detect.

Um, I was trying to REDUCE the noise BUT if we use your idea, we need to do ALL the same coins one day and then another type the other. Otherwise we are back to square one with the meter jumping ALL over the place!

Hi Jim,

I used to read constant iron, everything was always originating as iron and then jump to the possible target and then back to iron, over and over again.

I have not had a chance to mess with the 1.5 inch spacer yet, but will watch closely to see if anything different is happening. I suspect the results will change.

Your foam idea is good, perhaps it could even be fiberglassed if need be.

I am going to use this latest version as a set of training wheels to see if there is a major difference in all locations and then, if there is, try to swing above the ground when using the ace.

Told ya's this was a whacky looking experiment.

I don't usually scrub when swinging normally. But I try to keep as close
to the ground as I can without actually hitting it.
Hitting the ground can make my machine false if I'm using the 9x12 coil.
I do usually scrub when pinpointing though. One reason I like the coil
covers..

You could probably take a couple old solid coil covers and glue them together and then tape them to your coil. For a lightweight spacer.

[size=large]i didn't read all the post so pardon if a repeat. my idea is frisbies. unpside down w/ plastic ties. already curved and maybe the right height?
