Another V3 chain

Found this silver (925) chain today after my morning coffee at the local coffee shop. Was starting to think I was going to get skunked this weekend as yesterday's results was just clad, foil and pulltabs. The chain came in at -1 to -3 on the VDI and was only three inches down. However, this target required a slow sweep with the loop otherwise it would be missed. Pretty sure that is why it was still there as the sidelines at this soccer field are hit pretty hard by everyone around the area. Thx for looking.

Hi Willee,,,,,,Its the old story. Even though a silver dollar or a large sterling ring read very high, and a silver dime and a normal small silver ring read fairly high, a small thin wire gold or silver or copper ring will read quite low. In the case of a silver chain, the detector sees only the individual segments as a target and each segment is akin to a thin wire gold ring, therefore the whole silver chain will only read as a low number. However, a thick silver chain can read quite high. I hope this helps you to understand this common question and answer........the best of hunting success to you,.,......How.

Another way to look at it is, a detector sees each link in a chain or bracelet as a VERY small silver or gold ring, LOTS of them together.

Thanks ... I am impressed that the V3 is sensitive enough to detect those small links.
A few years back I tested small gold chains with various detectors and found many could not detect them.
There must be a lot of small gold chains in the beach sand that most detectors can not find.

I guess a small coil would be even better for detecting them ... any special settings on the V3 needed?

It just gets better and better.
