Tried the Safari for the first time today, after Noise Cancel I still get a lot of noise or hits. This could be junk in my yard, not sure, if every sound is really a target this machine beats my Fisher CZ 7 by a mile.
How steady must you hold the coil when doing Noise Cancel?
I am also waiting for my charger from KellyCo, how does the rechargeable 9.6 volt stack up to the alkaline 12 volt? How come the machine runs on both voltages?

i use an explorer xs and i just let the coil rest on the ground while doing the ground cancel.

I first tried it 5 inches up in the air. Then after seeing the comments on line I started leaving it on the ground.Diddin't see any difference. But now I set it on the ground. Also I cancel every 30 mins or so,or if I change areas.

Hi Watersteps,

If you are still experiencing difficulties try the following ideas to see if they help.

1- Check the connectors on your cord. Mine worked loose once, and drove me nuts with falsing.

2- Reset your machine to factory settings on occasion, and reprogram your favorite settings. You can do this by holding the POWER button in during power up until you see the message.

3- Run in AUTO sensitivity, or lower your MANUAL setting.

4- Switch the TRASH DENSITY to LOW.

Hope this helps, I have had to do all of these depending on the area I am hunting.

Good Hunting! Q

Hi watersteps, i bought a new Safari in january this year & had exactly the same problem as you have, it was falsing all over the show something wicked & i found it very frustrating. I too done NOISE CANCEL with the coil resting on the ground, HOWEVER, in the SAFARI MANUAL it tells you to hold the coil STILL at approximately 30cm(12") above the ground whilst performing noise cancel, i tried this method the next time i went out in the field and it was like using a different machine with no problems at all! I would suggest you try it as it worked for me.

If you are getting a lot of false signalstry auto sense,if you still get falsing,go manual sense, and try a low setting, say 10,you will still get reasonable depth, and you can step it up as you go along and get the feel of the machine.
If you are still having problems, try another area to detect,as I have found some site are just too noisy to detect.
Always make sure to clean under the coil cover (I do it before each session),as the build up of soil particles/dewy grass/sand can become magnetised
and cause instability.
Slowing the sweep speed down can help run the machine smoothly, with the added bonus yhat you are less likely to miss deep targets.

Watersteps: When you noise cancel make sure there is NOTHING under your coil. I sometimes check in all metal to make sure there is nothing under the coil then when I'm satisfied switch to the program I'm going to use then noise cancel. You probably knew this but that usually takes care of my falsing. Hope this helps. HH:minelab:

Success! I tried the noise caneling with the coil on the ground and it works very well. Now I can get down to learning the sounds and the numbers. Thanks to all.

Darn it all ????

On he ground or in the air 12" come on one answer which is right?

Andy?

Right on edjcox!
They can't both be right:argue:?!!! when i very first went out with my Safari i thought ther wer a darn canary trapped in my headphones or summit! that was after noise cancelling with the coil on the ground! i then referred back to the manual & done the NC with coil 12" above ground, i never had the problem after that, just a few falsies, so i then went manual sensitivity & dropped it down to 16-17 & that cured it! I read Andy's book several times before going out in the field (as i did the safari manual), i was confused by this conflicting info so tried both ways, i suppose it depends what types of soil/ground conditions your hunting in?

I guess what ever works for you is right, guys here on FTF helped but, Andy S, told me what to do and it works. I can't wait for his book to come in the mail.

Thanks everybody for the info you offered, I believe it depends on your soil conditions and what works for you. If one way doesn't work try the other.
Thanks again.
