Hit few early house sites tonight one produced a back of a 2 piece and some brass pieces. The second one a been dozed over and it beginning to look like a bust when I got a slamming 24 on my Equinox. Not expecting much I let my buddy swing over it as I smiled and he confirmed "good target". This gorgeous Calvary button rolled out of the dirt in the first shovel full. First picture is as dug no wiping brushing etc.. The second is a gentle wash only! Quite possibly my best Civil war button to date!

Nice and in very good condition. What part of the country did you find it in?

The pasture was kind to the button and will be to the coppers too I suspect.
 
This is one I found a few weeks ago that is similar to yours. Not trying to hijack, but interested in dates, if anybody knows.

There are lots of different varieties, back marks are the key along with Alberts button book! That is a nice one! With the gilding showing you might try a dip in lemon juice it could make it pop!
 
That is a very nice Cavalry Button Jeff. I was lucky enough to Pull a "C" button years ago out of a very old Montana city park that had some military history.
