I got out the other night for an hour and a half at my favorite park. I decided to try a part of the field that I had not hunted much in the past. I'm glad I did!
As the last time, I was hunting with Andy's program, Goes4ever's settings and the trusty stock coil. Once I started hunting the new ground, my first signal was a 12-14 and at about 5 inches down I pulled out a nice 1899 Liberty Head nickel that was standing completely on end. Love digging those early nickels! After filling the hole and while getting back to my feet, my coil slid over a nice silver high tone. It pegged on 12-44 and never wavered. The depth showed at about 7 inches down and sure enough I soon saw the flash of old silver in the hole. I pulled it out wreath side up, saw an S mint mark and flipped it over to see I had an 1896 Barber dime. This is a semi-key to the series with just under 500,000 minted. Even with it being a bit worn it is still about an $80.00 coin. I then immediately got a couple more signals which were 1940 and 1918 Wheaties. I then got another 12-13 nickel signal just as it got dark and at about 6 inches I pulled out another V nickel! Unfortunately, this one was pretty roached and I could not make out a date.
All the coins were found over a 40 minute period and in a very small area. I'll be heading back out there tomorrow for a few hours so I hope this new section keeps producing. I keep telling myself I am due for an SLQ or Barber quarter. There has to be one out there somewhere.
