If the 13 inch is for a Sovereign (BBS) it will work on any of the Sovereigns including a Elite. Now if it made for a Explorer or E-Trac it will not as they are FBS detectors. The only coils that work with the Sovereign are those made for the Sovereigns.
Myself the 10 inch Tornado coil works great and if you are new to the Sovereign I would be looking for a 8 inch coil to help with the learning curve as a bigger coil will only make the learning curve longer. For a bigger coil the one that seem to be the most liked is the S-12 of Sun Rays.

I dont know what type of hunting your doing ....not knowing that and even if I did know . I would say 10x12 being I have both and wasn't impressed with the 13" on the beach.
