An e-trac noob should never ________

Hi all, I'm an e-trac noob (I just ordered mine today) and I am looking for advice from you veterans.

So go ahead and hit me with your best shots... ( all in good fun )

Here's a little more about me.
I got my first detector (a radio shack unit) at 10YO. But hadn't detected in a couple decades until my wife got me an Ace 250 for fathers day this summer.
I live in a tiny river town that was settled in the 1700's. And we have civil war sites around.

I am mainly interested in hunting for silver coins at this stage, but will probably do a good bit of relic hunting as well.

Thanks all, keep 'em comin'

be afraid to try some tiny little area or that public spot cause "I'll look like a goober". (chances are nobody has)

Fail to learn everything you can about the black treasure beast you have in your hand. You will for sure find more treasure than you have in the past with an E-Trac and your knowledge of how to get the most out of your new machine. HH :minelab:

Great idea for a post !

I learned the most about my machine three ways ...

( 1 ) Time spent in the field with the E-Trac - hands on is usually the best way to learn anything new.
( 2 ) This forum - I ask every question that comes to mind - I've been reading and taking notes on others people's posts for several years now.
( 3 ) Reading and re-reading Andy's Explorer & E-Trac book - this book goes way beyond the factory manual.

Good luck with your new E-Trac ! :detecting:

swing their detector fast while detecting..low and slow listen for the nice high tones .....

I second this. In field learning is the best. Als, you need to put in a coin garden if you do not have one.

Great advice gents!!!

Leave any reasonable signal not dug to start.
Doc

Yeah, I started with one of those folding military style shovels, using my ace 250. But in the summertime when things dried up, it didnt cut it. And the deepest target I remeber digging was about 8" with the 250.
So yesterday (taking advantage of the frozen weather obstructing any other projects) I started fabricating something that has been brewing in my head all winter I'm calling the "dragon's tooth"

Oh I know that, if you pour a Double dose of Etrac onto a site that site will start to dry up twice as quick!!:yikes:

Jeff, I am in southern WV. Have friends in harrisburg though. Thanks for the invite.
