I plan on redoing my headphones this winter, i can send some pictures of what I'm doing and maybe help you out if needed. I'm trying to set them up so I can use them on a couple of my detectors, seems the Excal and the dual field have a few things in common..each has a threshold that keeps going until the machine turns {almost} off...so there is a point on each that you can't hear it anymore, but it's still there and there is about a Quarter of a inch more twist to the knob. Lot of unheard area on the Each................. the DF {PI}.Faint targets or disruptions in the threshold====target...just like the excal...................the good thing about the amp is you can adjust the power, think it is from 1x to 6x or 5x..it is a killer on the shallow targets, that's why I turn it off. I have tried sweeping the coil higher but it that first hit you don't see coming. {even set up a limiter, but the wait for the audio to comeback on is like 10 seconds, seemed like forever...............Your first test, try your scoop...in AM/PP with the amp off, see how far you can swing the coil from the scoop before the signal disappears...mark this in the sand,,,now turn the amp on and start at the point where you left a mark in the sand, and notice the faster swing seems to works better..{think there is about a foot difference}.O'yea you will notice that the very faint threshold you once had is so loud you have to turn it down to where it is faint again....by adjusting the excals threshold/off knob even.....lower........ALMOST to the point of where the Excal turns off...Amazing..lost sensitivity to all metal targets in this unheard zone..........WakeUp Minelabs engineers.............
I did a quick compare at OC, off the record...the excal could nail 3 deep targets amp on, the DF could get 2 but the 3rd was so faint that I would have missed it if did not know it was there....{Fairness to the DF, My first time out, but with Hot settings I stole from craigPI}.................Wow, I am just glad someone can share the same experience and maybe come up with a few difference ideas on how to improve what I am short on......let me know how you do when you get started.............................good luck, stay in contact.......Joe
