Allmetal Reverse Hunting the beach with the Excalibur 1000

Thanks Joe... I ordered the amp. I was pretty impressed with your videos. It looks like you get down pretty deep so I guess the amp does make a difference. Will let you know how it turns out... If you come to FL again let me know maybe we can hit the beach?

Thanks again

I plan on redoing my headphones this winter, i can send some pictures of what I'm doing and maybe help you out if needed. I'm trying to set them up so I can use them on a couple of my detectors, seems the Excal and the dual field have a few things in common..each has a threshold that keeps going until the machine turns {almost} off...so there is a point on each that you can't hear it anymore, but it's still there and there is about a Quarter of a inch more twist to the knob. Lot of unheard area on the Each................. the DF {PI}.Faint targets or disruptions in the threshold====target...just like the excal...................the good thing about the amp is you can adjust the power, think it is from 1x to 6x or 5x..it is a killer on the shallow targets, that's why I turn it off. I have tried sweeping the coil higher but it that first hit you don't see coming. {even set up a limiter, but the wait for the audio to comeback on is like 10 seconds, seemed like forever...............Your first test, try your scoop...in AM/PP with the amp off, see how far you can swing the coil from the scoop before the signal disappears...mark this in the sand,,,now turn the amp on and start at the point where you left a mark in the sand, and notice the faster swing seems to works better..{think there is about a foot difference}.O'yea you will notice that the very faint threshold you once had is so loud you have to turn it down to where it is faint again....by adjusting the excals threshold/off knob even.....lower........ALMOST to the point of where the Excal turns off...Amazing..lost sensitivity to all metal targets in this unheard zone..........WakeUp Minelabs engineers.............
I did a quick compare at OC, off the record...the excal could nail 3 deep targets amp on, the DF could get 2 but the 3rd was so faint that I would have missed it if did not know it was there....{Fairness to the DF, My first time out, but with Hot settings I stole from craigPI}.................Wow, I am just glad someone can share the same experience and maybe come up with a few difference ideas on how to improve what I am short on......let me know how you do when you get started.............................good luck, stay in contact.......Joe

Hey OBN how about a doubleamp, amp up the faint signals from the first one, just a daft flashing thought that crossed my mind, where does one stop:biggrin:

[u]Joe, a [u]Big Thank YOU I always look forward to your video's, I have now 70 rings in no small part due to your video's. I will be leaving for Mexico in Jan. my goal is 50 rings + enough coins to pay for my water while hunting. I am comfortable using the Excal, last year I got 31 rings with only a slight understanding of how the machine worked.
I have viewed your video's, read Clive's books and listened to Tony Diana's tapes so am confident I will be able to come home with 50+ rings.
I will post the pics when I return, I have a question " is it me or is the Excal not that is not that great detecting necklaces, I have yet to find one, I have picked up a bulkier silver and
a gold bracelet but no fine chains.

on the subject of amps, I have been looking at a low cost solution as they are not available here in the UK..

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=396969#spec

would something like this work?

as for fine chains a lot of detectors cannot pick them up unless the clasp is of detectable size.. you'd need a prospecting machine to find the fine chains I would've though..

Thanks Gerry........Good Luck on your adventure, I'm sure you will do very well........element is 100% on the fine chains, been detecting the water for 4 years with the excals, only found chains with clasps, something bigger attached. or knotts in the chain.

element..let me do some research, it does look like it would work...And I do know of a few old timers that have taken CD Players and ran there speaker wires thur the CD Player to the headphones to AMP up the signal....Plus, I have been watching Critterhunters Headphone debate here on the forum, So some Great new ideas.......even a double AMP...you never know. Here are some reviews on the Fiio e5

After watching this video, I'm not sure if it will do as well as the Doc's..
but if you can make your own.................. the one the in the second video seems to be the ticket, has all the same component as the Doc's
