Advice on AT pro purchase for a Tesoro guy

synthnut said:
Hi Bart ,
I see on this forum that guys have complained about having a less sensitive AT Pro after having sent the earlier machines in for the update .... Since you have had both early and newer machines , are you seeing a less sensitive newer machine when you get them in , or are they as powerful as the older machines ? .....I'm leary about sending in my older machine as I don't want it detuned, but the good features that are offered are hard to beat , especailly the extended warranty ......Thanks , Jim
I've have two friends that have ATPro's one that has had the update and one that hasn't. The one that has, noticed a dramatic change in the machine being quieter and less erratic.. In other words alot more stable. He said in the Pro mode, his tid worked a little deeper than it did before. He also had problems when he would bang up against say a small sapling it would sound off. Now that he had it updated it does not do that even with the sensitivity up to 1 under full.
I have used the Pro thats not updated and it very sensitve to everything around it and seems unstable most of the time. It can be frustrating but I can understand what it is saying just alot of noise.. I can ground balance and turn the sensitivity down quite abit before it acts like I think it should. Recently I picked up an updated machine and noticed quite a bit of difference even with the settings maxed. It was quieter and less unstable when around another detector and over trash.... I am still new to the machines but have been detecting for a while now and can tell when a machine is acting "not up to par" Hope this helps...

Thanks Gonehunting for the info.

I'm sending in my AT-Pro today for the upgrade based on yours and others comments.

I was on the fence about sending it back in for another $40, but it seems like the only thing to do if I'm going to use it more or ever try and sell it.

XT-705 are my main land detectors, I'm hoping the AT-Pro will be a good fresh water machine when it comes back.

My Tesoro's have always been good to me, just got a like new used Vaquero and all I can say is wow.

I hope when my AT-Pro comes back I can say the same thing about it.

Good Hunting

Denny

Sorry, just saw this. It was on an upgraded early machine. I was out in the Gila Nat Forest yesterday and dug a 1918 wheat penny at ~12", so, seems like the depth is just fine. I had to break out the long transplanting spade for that one. :super:

That's good to hear.. I just started using the AT series and am impressed with both... Can't wait to get time on both...
