ACE 250

Yes there has been a lot of good replies to my original post. It would seem that the ACE 250 has a strong following.

Cheers,
Fishers Ghost

I would agree with Katz, go for the 350. I bought my 350 for $250.00 form a company in Ca. They allowed me to refuse gifts.

For the money it's a great machine and one I still use. Try looking up CRACKBADGER on youtube...he's had some incredible finds on Florida beaches with the Ace 250. I liked mine when I first bought it a year ago but like it even better now that I've learned to interpret what it's COMMUNICATING to me (detectors have a language that you have to learn). IMHO I think a lot of us buy and sell our machines before we really learn what they can do. Since I'm retired and on a limited budget I had to learn what the Ace is communicating to me. When is it time to move on to a "better" detector? When the Ace 250 "finds" allows you to buy one! I traded all the change I had found to buy the Garrett Pro-Pointer (which made my life much easier!). The next thing my Ace bought me was the 4.5 sniper coil (that I hardly use yet!). Then I ran into some rough soil conditions and the coins from the Ace allowed me to buy a Tesoro Vaquero (another machine I like but still learning to communicate) which helped me in some rough soil. Since January I've found another $48 which I'm saving up, maybe for the 2500. I can live with the 10% I can't find for the 90% that I can find. Even though I find stuff up to 8", most of my money was in the top 3". Most of my jewelry was in the top 2".

Funny thing is that I am finding myself drifting back to using older analogue machines. As good as the microprocessor detectors are it just seems to me that some of the older machines from as far back as twenty years are more than capable of staying with the modern jobs in any ground conditions and in a lot of cases they are significantly better. The detector that gives me a lot of satisfaction is my old 6000 DI Series 3. This detector has deadly accurate Target ID and pinpointing. Can work well in a wide range of ground conditions, Has an excellent All Metal Manual GB TID mode, Holds its tune well and is the most hassle free detector I own. What with my SOV, 6000 DI Pro SL, Scorpion, Lobo ST, Infinium and a few others; The old series 3 is the machine I still choose when I do the parks , gardens, school grounds and it can do a fair job at the beach if you use the TR Disc mode and set the disc to salt. I have never even once , cursed this machine.

This forum is jammed with info on the 250. Check it out. It's the hottest selling detector on the market. What can I say?

Bill

Yeah a lot of folks don't spend the time it takes to familiarize themselves with their detector. One should spend a minimum of 100 hours with any detector in dozens of different areas and soil conditions. I spend 60-80 hours just field testing a new machine. Learning your machine is absolutely essential or you lose. You learn something different the longer you use your deetector and you never stop learning.

Bill

Yeah the sensitivity at four bars works the best. This is the most abused and misunderstood control on a detector and jacking this control up causes most of the problems on detectors and most can't figure it out.

Bill

Yeah after Garrett came out with the 250 and it took off they had to add another wing to the factory and hire additional employees to handle the load and it hasn't let up yet.

Bill.

With all this talk about the ACE 250, it surprises me that there isn't a page devoted to JUST the ACE 250!

Even better would be a listing of all the great tips on the Ace that have been on this forum.

Thanks for the replies, has been helpfull.
Just browsing other forums there seems to be an even split between those who like and those who do not like it.
Most negatives are, Does not pin point well, Don't like the multi tones and doesn't go very deep .. 3 or 4 inches ?? any advise in regards to these negatives?
. Any comments here?

Fishers G

It pinpoints fine. Any problems with pinpointing would likely be cockpit error,
rather than fault of the machine. It does take a little practice at first, but once
you get used to it, it's a piece of cake.
Depth 3-4 inches? They must either be on super hot ground, or they are running
their sensitivity too low for the ground they are over. Heck, I've found dimes at
5-6 inches just using the 4.5 inch sniper coil. The stock coil goes deeper, and the
9x12 and the larger 3rd party coils go even deeper. I get a good 9-10-11 inches from
the 9x12 on good soil. Of course, all grounds are different, and results are always
going to vary.
Is it in the same league as the 2500 and some of the other high dollar machines?
Nope. But it's close enough that for the "depth for the buck" I'd wager the 250
actually beats the 2500 when you calculate the inches per dollar spent.
Not sure what you mean about the "multi tones"..
Anyway, it ain't no Cadillac machine, but I think it's the best appx $212 machine
out there, even 4-5 years after it came out. I'm still using one after 4 years, and
still plenty happy with it. I've never regretted buying the 250.

We had 1, it was a wretched piece of junk. It would false and not pinpoint. My wife liked it tho and hen we had a chance for another at a good price from a friend we got it.
This Ace 250 works like a dream. Fast accurate and pinpoints well.
The first 1 we had must have been a lemon.

I love the ACE 250....definitely the best detector for the money....I recommend getting the value pack.....comes with the bag and the 9 by 11 inch coil....you can get the whole thing for 350.00 bucks.
