ACE 250

Thinking of gettind an ACE 250 so Looking for opinions on this detector.
Where will it work , where will it not work. Can it be used on dry salt beach sand to any worthwhile degree?

Oh yeah, it rocks on the dry sand!:super: On the wet sand you need to lower the sensitivity, though.:wiggle: Happy Hunting!:)

In the wet salt sand the pinpoint feature is useless. But it's easy enough to pinpoint in the disc mode. Especially if you have a scoop. I don't use the pinpoint in the dry sand either when scooping sand. It takes too much time. You want to recover as many targets per hour as you can to be successful on the beach.

It works great in the sand, it's a great all around machine and you can't beat it for the price, if you are going to do beach and field hunting I would get the 9x12 coil so you can cover more ground faster. This coil will also give you a couple of more inches of depth..........Bill in NC

My ace 250 is making me crazy I know I have'nt used enough yet but
I get a good bell tone one sweep come back and nothing sweep a few more times get a good tone
pinpoint and dig and nothing rescan and tone at all HELP

Thanks for the replies, has been helpfull.
Just browsing other forums there seems to be an even split between those who like and those who do not like it.
Most negatives are, Does not pin point well, Don't like the multi tones and doesn't go very deep .. 3 or 4 inches ?? any advise in regards to these negatives?
Positives are, It is light weight, easy to use, A good Tot Lot machine, Some say they get good depth. I have heard of a couple of operators who have found gold in the Aussie gold fields with this detector?? ... Any comments here?

In good ground, the little ace will easily hit a penny at 6" with the factory coil. Larger coils are available that both improve depth and pinpointing. I was one of those guys who didn't like the 250. I bought one, used it twice, and traded it off. Later, I purchased a 350, which is basically the same machine with a DD coil. I took the time to learn the machine, and now I'm in the market for another 250 for a backup unit. I am a firm believer that people who don't like the Ace have never taken the time to learn how to use the ace.

Jarrow, try dropping your sensitivity by a bar or two. My 350 will give phantom signals sometimes if I have my sensitivity too high in hot dirt.

Learning the best sensitivity setting for whatever area you are in and getting a sniper coil are the two best things to improve your Ace. I tried to sell mine 3 times before I learned to use it. I couldn't live without it now.

Here's what I say. If it was that crappy it sure wouldn't be the most sold machine since it's inception. I had several pricey machines I could use but grabbed the 250 90% of the time. Why? Because it worked. Try one and find out. You'll be surprised.

I have had mine for five years and not ONE problem. You have a hard time beating the Ace 250 for the price.
You could buy a Bounty Hunter (not the Bounty at WalMart. Its junk); you will pay more and get very little.
This is a good little machine. When and if you can afford it I would get the 9x12 coil and the sniper coil. Actually you
might as well get the Ace 350. You can use the 250 coils on it.

I am from the old school of analogue detectors. The ACE 250 was my first detector with an LCD screen, target ID and multi-tones. I got to say I have really enjoyed using this machine and I have found a load of stuff with it. I got a package deal from Kelleyco that came with a extra coil ( 9x12 ). I put that on and have never even used the stock coil. I get good depth, an average of 8 inches + or - depending on the object which to me is great for a 200.00 machine. I haven't tried any of the other brands so I guess I am kind of bias. I will put it to you like this I don't think you will be disappointed with the ACE.............Bill in NC

I too left the 9x12 on the 250. It pinpointed great. Picked up tiny targets and was deep. I then would use the Sniper in tot lots and trash sites. But the stock coil just sat in my basement.

My first detector was an Ace 250. It worked so well I figured the Garrett GTI2500 must REALLY rock. The 2500 is now at Garrett getting fixed and meanwhile I'm using my "back up" 250. The Ace 250 is a fantastic machine.

I see that a lot of people have responded to your post, but here is my two cents worth. When I lived in fl. I used my ace 250 on the beaches and It works great on dry sand. I have picked up a lot of gold with it. It is a great detector for the price. I made it work by turning the sensitivity down in wet sand, but my f -70 is my beach detector now. I think the Ace is a great tot lot detector. With the sniper coil I can get with in 1" from the metal equipment. I don't know if any other detector can do that. It is so simple to use, it makes a great loaner.

Good to hear from you again, John. It was because of the gold ring you found next to the steel bar that I got my sniper coil. l too have tried other 4" coils and because the Ace can be truly turned down in sensitivity, NONE so far can get as close.
