Ace 250 will get my chance

Well-known member
I have had an ACE 250 about a half year and will give it a try on my next hunt here in a day or two. I bought it for others to use who may come along with me. When I got it, I powered it up and only did an air test to make sure it worked. I remember I had my KOSS UR-30 headphones on and I thought my ears were going to bleed. Well I guess tomorrow I'm going to go to a local mining shop and get headphones with adjustable volume and my first electronic pinpointer too.
I normally use my Explorer-II and I know there is a large gap between the Explorer and the ACE 250 in cost, features, and the learning curve. I have been reading about the ACE 250 and it's a no brainer that the positives out-weigh the negatives. I'll go about it being fair with a totally open mind.
All the inputs on this site in regards to the ACE 250 leads me to know that I won't be disappointed. Goes to show all the posts and replies provides a wide view which is helpful. Well, it got me to the point on trying it now.
Like I stated, I normally use the Explorer but bring along another machine or two for back-up or a tag-along friend. Who knows, maybe the ACE may end up coming along on every hunt trip out.
Would also like to thank all for extensive posts on the ACE 250 Yeller Feller.

I'll bet you'll use the 250 most of the time and use your other detector as a back up in bad soil conditions. I know it doesn't have a GB control. I know it didn't cost $1000.00 dollars. But I can tell you that just for the weight factor it's a joy to use. Not to mention all of the features. Hurry and get a sniper coil. You can almost rub up to steel supports to get the goodies others can't. Do not run the sensitivity too high at first. Preset is a good place to start. I have not had an issue with pinpointing as some has. I pinpoint dead center on all targets. Don't forget to detune the target. Post back with you report. PS. After detecting with the 250 for a week I sold my X-Terra 30.

Lighter,more features,cheaper ='s better. Ace 250.

There have been others who hung up their high end machine to use the ACE Series detectors. Many places have all their targets in the top 5-6 inches.

Funny you should say that you sold your X-Terra 30 khouse.
As of yesterday, I put mine into retirement for the same reason. While on paper, they seem to be close on features, in reality the X-Terra just can't keep up!
Should I ever want to upgrade It can become trade in material, otherwise it will only come out if the kids want to go out for a detect with me (not very often).
Mick Evans.

Mick,
For twice the cost the xt30 was 3/4 the detector of the Ace 250. I wasn't going to wait another year for a small coil that would have cost $150.00 on the xt30 either. The $65.00 sniper is killer on the 250.

Hey Dick.
We might be accused of Minelab bashing! But it's just that the Ace is a better machine!:garrett:
Hopefully we'll get steered right on the pinpointing real soon.
Cheers
Mick Evans.

With everyone switching to the Ace 250, We're going to need a "Yeller Feller" forum. I'm a Ace user myself. My other detectors are dust magnets now.

There seems to be more and more as days goes by. I bet Charles Garrett could kick himself for selling this good a detector as cheap as he did.
LOL

They are probably still making out pretty good
as many as they are selling. I'm just glad I got
a 250. I guess I started looking around about a
year ago, and didn't really have much idea which
to get. I was looking at used bounty hunters,
Whites, etc. Then I stumbled across a forum or
something where people were talking about the ace
machines. So I started looking into those, and liked
what I heard, and also the price was right.
It's been almost a year or so since I got it, and I
still think I got the right one. Got lucky.. I could
have ended up with some doggy machine for more $$. :(
I gave my 250 a total bath today. Totally broke it
down and cleaned it all. Took the covers off the coils,
and cleaned those. Didn't have too much crud under
the covers this time. Gave my pinpointer a bath too..
I'm still glad I got those covers. The bottoms of my
coils still look like new, and I'm a ground scuffer a lot
of the time. :)

Well Mick, welcome to the legions who have shelved their high-end machines in favor of the lowly 250. I can't imagine what Garrett will come up with to top this little puppy. But the way it's selling they won't have to for some time.

I don't know, they are completing a large addition to their plant ( employing another 120 people ) on the profits from the 250, and of course in a small way from their other products. :)

...have you used the Ace 250 relic hunting? I have a Whites Classic IDX that is great for coins but isn't real deep. I bought a Fisher Coinstrike that is real deep and an awesome relic machine but gets heavy after awhile.

My son recieved the Ace 250 as a Christmas gift and the 2 times we've been out with it I have really been impressed with it's performance. We went to a couple of playgrounds for my son to learn how to use the machine and he did pretty good for his first outings.

If it does well on relics I may just ditch my other machines and buy myself an Ace and a couple of the optional coils.
