A true story

That's a really great ending to the story ! I shall remember your thoughtfullness when/if I find any tags in the future, Steve in so az

Excellent post, and a great service to the gentleman who had lost his pet, and part of his memory. Memories are fragile things, to help someone who has that terrible disease remember something his partner thought he would never regain a memory of , is very special.
Even if all you did was return a lost dog tag...... you did a very great and special thing to those people.

Thank you Mr. Beard for the kind response..It is appreciated

You are all such kind caring people..Thanks for the wonderful responses.

Elton.... nice story. You did right.... you brought someone back, even if for a short time, you brought someone back. God is smiling on you.

Elton,
I got a couple of "BUTS"...
I'm not usually one of the 'touchy - feely' sentimental types ... BUT ... your story got to me.
I get a lot of enjoyment hunting and finding with my DFX ... BUT ...
I can only hope to someday feel the tremendous joy of re-uniting someone with something of such significance as you did with that dog collar!
I'd swap a gold find for that privilege anyday.
GBY&Y,

Wow.You put that in a great perspective.............After reading everyones kind responses I now know my experience was a special unique privilege
one could only hope to experience. It came as a great surprise, and an experience I will forever cherish !!! Thank you.

oh I knew you had a great good heart Elton.... see... look at the joy you gave that man and most likely his wife as well... by doing this...it most likely made his wife feel that part of her hubby was back again, and thats a flat out wonderful thing... you did excellent... very proud to call you friend...

Aw Shucks..Now I am Blushing....... And you for sure have that friend part right..Same here.
The happy part wasn't what bothered me.It was the lady and how sad she seemed talking about what was..I just wasn't sure if it was good ,or bad for a long time.
I felt like I might have caused her lots of pain with her remembering what was, and then after really thinking about it, maybe she was happy he could remember the dog.Sir you are correct, I am a big softy, and would never intentionally hurt anyone. It was just one of those awkward situations you just didn't know if you were right or wrong..Hard to explain what I mean........it was uncomfortable for me, and very emotional just listening to her talk.I just didn't know what to do or say and it left a lasting impression on me.
When you can bring just one memory back to a person in that position, you can be proud of yourself. Anytime they can remember something about the past or the now... life becomes a bit easer for that day. I had a close friend that was my detector buddy, and he died from "Mad Cow Disease" He only lasted 9 mo. When I would visit him in the home he had to go to I could see him going down hill. He got to the place when he wanted to say something he would start out with a sentence, but only got three words out then he couldn't remember what he wanted to say. It was very sad. I stopped detecting for aver a year because loosing my friend. I just now am getting back into metal detecting. You did the right thing and you made the wife's day a lot better.

Woodworker40:
Thank you for the touching story..Sorry about your friend.
He is still with you if only in your memories.Every time you are out detecting, you will remember something you shared with your friend..Enjoy those memories..He Sir would want it that way !.

I was reading thought the forms looking at everyone's finds and I found your story it brought joy to my heart it did bring some sadness to but only for the couple's lives but what you did i know gave them back something that was long lost who knows what other memories you may have unlock after reading it i read it to my wife we bought sat with a tear in are eyes. thanks

Great story!!!!!
You did a good thing, you did!
Wouldn't it be a great world if more
people took the time to go out of their
way for others?
SOmewhere up in the heavens tonight
there is a new star with your name on it!!!!!!

The best to you always,

If anyone can bring one moment of joy or one memory long gone, to a person in that mans condition...it is truly a wonderful gift... Can you imagine the stress his wife had been going thru dealing with her husbands condition? Watching someone you love go down hill with that disease then, all the sudden to have him partially back even if just for a short time, with a joyful memory that he himself remembered, and talked all day about his beloved pet, is truly a great and wonderful thing... I hope that simple dog tag keeps him talking and talking and remembering a memory that meant so much to him...El, how long ago did you do this? I wonder if that man is still alive? either way.... its a wonderful thing you did... and I hope that someday, someone can do the same for me..bring me back a joyful memory ....atta boy El...your a good hearted person... and what a treasure you returned, a mans memory.... that is truly one treasure found.. so now all remember, if you find dog tags, try n see if you can find the owners...you just dont know what the outcome will be till you try.
