A Tiffany Platinum Ring Day Today!

If the machine is falsing even when the coil is held still in the air then you for sure have the sensitivity too high, or at the very least there is nearby strong EMI being generated by something. Or, final option would be something wrong with the machine (if there is no water or sand trapped in the coil cover). I'd take off the coil cover and try hunting and see if it gets better there. That's one of the reasons why I hate coil covers and use spray on bed liner to protect the bottom of my coils, let alone because it makes them lighter too. Keep us updated on what you find out. Oh, and did you try to switch noise bands to see if that helps if it is interference? And, turn off Iron Mask as some say it makes the machine false less in certain rare/very bad soils. I always keep it ON myself, though, for best depth and ability to pull coins from iron.

Yes switched noise bands, hunted with coil cover off, did not run no iron mask (I am not giving up iron mask lol). I still love the machine though, howcan you not. Will be hunting Sarasota/Siesta Key in midJune will check it there. Using the stock coil on it. No falsing on connections. I may have to try standing on my head. Ever hear of problems with gt and headphones with built in limiter. How about headphones operating outside of 30-100 ohm range. My grey ghosts deep woods operate at150 ohms. Last thought.

Yes, I recently read a thread (maybe it was you?) a few weeks or so back where a guy suspected the limiter circuit in his headphones was causing interference in his GT. Hmmmmm....Perhaps the limiter circuit is generating EMI that is traveling back up the head phone cable and into the circuit board?

Either way, I know the Sunray Pro Golds with a limiter circuit work great from what others say and our a favorite among the Sovereign crowd, and among other detectors too.

Just a thought...Unplug the headphones and see if the interference goes away. If it does then next step is to plug in another set of headphones with no limiter and see if they work. If they do then it's obviously the limiter in that other pair, but if the interference is back then something is wrong with your GT that goes bad when the headphones are plugged in, but not necessarily when there are no headphones plugged in.

I was just looking...I've got 5097 posts in 2 years (probably closer to 3 but it says 2 right now in my message header)...That's got to be a record on Findmall I bet.

Limiter should not be causing the problem - it's not an active circuit unless the influx of sound is too much, that's the only time it should be active. This would not be true if there are loose connections though, as there is power going to them all the time, even if the limiter isn't "in use" at the time. I have noticed a lot of falsing before storms, and I don't mean right before storms, but several hours ahead of one. That, and when running my settings too hot for the area. I would suspect a loose connection first. I don't hip mount mine, but some here have said that hip mounting can mess with the connections on the coil end of the wire at the control box. I did have a bad connection on a headphone wire at the stress relief point - repairing that has gotten rid of almost all of the falsing I had been getting. It still falses if I run too hot, or before a storm, but no other times shy of being around high tension wires.

Yep changed headphones too 3 different pairs. I now do not suspect the limiter circuit as I did post about a potential problem with headphones with limiters. It is either an emf problem or I do not know. I have it shaft mounted and never changed the configuration out of the box. Runing sens to 2 does not solve the problem once it begins to false. Tin fin come to my beach! Go figure. Thanks for all the concern out there and good input. We will get to the bottom of this problem/mystery.Did not mean to hijack my own post. lol:)

If you are holding the coil in the air and still, and if even in Auto the machine is still unstable, then for sure there is a problem with either EMI or the machine being defective. Take it to a remote spot in some woods or something and hold the coil in the air and set it to Auto. If it's chatter city then for sure something is wrong with the machine. Just for kicks, if it does chatter, unplug the headphones and see if it stops. If so, then more than likely there is an issue with the headphone circuit in the machine.

Nice ring Easy! My Gt was chattering the other day pretty bad and it turned out to be the coil cable lock nut where it goes into the control box, backed off a few turns. I tightened it and the chatter went away.
Good luck Gary

That's what I'm looking for today: thrown by my fiance's EX into her yard. Wish me luck, although I will keep looking until it gets too cold here in Indiana. It's about the same size as the ring above, and with diamonds.

Found the platinum ring I was looking for in my fiance's yard just now! Plus 2 pulltabs a shotgun shell and 27 cents!
