.... and I used to live in PA and delt with the cold, snow and freezing conditions. That's why I now live in Florida. Today, my fingers get cold and start feeling numb when the temp drops below 50.

Guess it's what you get used to. You are right about wanting to detect on a fields with 300 years of history.... its just that I'd have to wait for that narrow window when it was at least 50 to 60 and before the grass got too high. Good luck to ya bud!
 
That is the picnic table next to my garden by the dock. The dock is my neighbors but she lets us use it......nice spot....plenty of historical stuff along that bank....but way too much junk mixed in. Although a few years back a friend of mine found an 1802 large cent along the same river bank...just sitting under a dock down in some rocks.
