A Recovery for My Dad / Gaming token pile / Sterling Bracelet / Possible 3-legged Buffalo Nickel

floodplaindetector

Well-known member
A couple weeks ago my wife Terri and I visited my parents at their farm on the other side of the state. My Dad Richard, who turned 93 in June told me to make sure and bring my metal detector
as he lost his ring on the road while going for a drive with his 1952 Farmall Super M tractor. He had an idea of where it slipped off his finger and other family members looked for it but had not found it yet.
Dad and I drove down the road to the area where he thought it was lost and I fired up my metal detector. I even tried swinging in the ditch with no luck. I then had the thought
that it may be further back on the road as the old tractor can cover some ground in road gear with a max speed of 18 mph. Sure enough, about 75 feet further back on the shoulder of the road, my detector screams out
with a silver high tone and I look down and just see a tiny glint of shiny. Most all of it was covered up with gravel due to a lot of harvest traffic and I do not think I would have spotted it with my eye.
I was very happy to find it and give it back to Dad. He later mentioned the silver agate ring was at least 50 years old.

Finds are from the last few weekend hunts since my last post. All finds were found at public sites with my Minelab eTrac.
I was very happy to find that old sterling silver bracelet as they don't come up often and are most always brass. That read like 3-4 inch deep half dollar. I pulled a pocket spill close by with the 1939 quarter,1937 wheat penny and 1947 nickel.
The 1937D buffalo nickel may be a rare 3 legged buffalo nickel. It does have some corrosion on it as it was very deep. Take a look at the reverse buffalo nickel picture and decide for yourself.
Thanks for looking!
Dave

What a great time , haul, and hunt for sure. Glad your pops got his ring back too. I think too that maybe there is a faint leg showing on the buffalo , best way to know is to have it graded, or take it to a reputable coin shop in your area.

Cheers, Mark ( ohio )

I totally agree, your Dad’s smile is worth more than anything else you have in those photos.
But, those finds are worth a smile or three as well!!!!
The big question in room? Why no pic of the tractor? Thats worth a little glitter too.

Well, since you asked. The tractor on the right is Dad's 1952 Farmall Super M tractor he was driving when he lost the ring.
My tractor on the left is a 1941 Farmall A. This picture made it into my company work calendar last year.,
Thanks for looking..

Love old Farmalls.
Father-in-law had a N series I did a lot of work on.
After his passing my in-laws won't let me near them.
🤬
Loved working the fields with them.
Smoother ride than modern machines.
Felt like walking a horse.

Beautiful tractors and amazing treasures as always! The priceless find is seeing your dad smile on the recovery of his ring!

Nice finds. That sure looks like a three legged Buffalo. The three legged always shows the hoof just as yours does.

Great story Dave. It's awesome that you found the ring. 3 legged buff looks like the real deal to me. Congrats on another great run!

All wonderful, especially having your Dad.

So glad it worked out for your dad. I love his smile. I'm pushing 86 but he looks great. Give him a hug for all of us. We, in this part of the south, are huggers but only to those that deserve it.

Great job on the ring recovery. I'm glad your Dad had a good idea of where it was at. Nicely done on all the old coins and those are some cool tokens.
