A PLUMB SERIOUS type of question

I usually concentrate on business at hand and continue to work as if no one is there. After a few minutes they get bored and wonder off.The ones who ask the questions I'll take my headphones off and explain to them I can't hear them and ask them to repeat the question, again they don't like talking to someone who keeps asking them to repeat questions.I'm there not to argue with or entertain people at the park and like to have a good hunt experience.Common sense I don't metal detect near other peoples activities and respect their space also.

give a Banshee yell, run toward who ever is annoying you..Cuss , scream, threaten, kick the dirt..eat a mouthful or two..and Say..

Hello How are you today..with a big smile..................Are you wondering what I am doing, or are you familiar with metal detecting..... Oh yea the first part was all bull...................I just try to be nice...:rofl:

This time of year in PA,, Camo coveralls,, sunglasses,, a hoodie thats bright yellow,, seems to keep most away,,

I ignore them. It's easy with headphones on even though I can hear them. I won't dig a target but will note the spots and go back. In the sand I make an mark and go back later to scoop. I tell everyone that I'm just finding broken glass and rusty nails. If several people keep after me I politely leave.

first part not a bad idea!.ya figure if they think ya "nuts" they get scared and leave ya alone!

I'm still nice to the people that don't continuiously bother me. Some start digging. Some grab my zincs from the hole. Others want to use my detectors. Mostly kids. I made the mistake last year on a volleyball court to let two boys use my detector. They started fighting over the use of it. Then one boy took off running with it. His parents were under the shelter house and didn't say a thing!. After 15 minutes I got my machine back then left the park. I just try to stay away from people. If they start showing up I find another place to hunt.

Keep them answers ah-cummin guys!!----We all gotta be learning some VERY GOOD tips here. I guess I've tried most of them over the years--some have worked for me-some haven't.----Haven't tried the raisin in the nose yet--hmmmm :yikes:-------Del

Yes, the adults that happen to talk to me are usually interested in the hobby. But on the other hand after a while the kids drive me crazy. I don't mind a few minutes with the kids if they then leave me alone. But sometimes I just have to leave. Heck even when I'm in the water up to my neck the kids are all around me. Some dive down each time I scoop and even grab the scoop! Those kids can tread water for quite some time!

hi, everybody! it's real simple the way i discourage onlookers from asking dumb questions, retrieving [and even tryin' to steal my finds], and gawking for too long. part of it is the fact that i'm 6' 3" tall and 225 lbs. i always wear shades when i'm detecting and carry an entrenching shovel in my left hand as i swing. i have a very effective and well practiced scowl [the direct byproduct of being a marine corps drill instructor's son] and a "don't mess with me, i'm detectin" demeanor. if that don't do it, then the coat does it! yeah, THE COAT. an old buddy gave me a plain pea green army jacket a few years back. i noticed it didn't have a name, so i took my time with a sharpie and wrote "POSTAL" in where the name goes. it works great.
my wife just loves to take me christmas shopping. even on the busiest days, i can put that coat on, some terminator shades, slick my hair back, and eat a pot of beans. it's like jesus parting the dead sea! it works great for me. what crowds?!! hh!

Wear a brightly colored vest with "Bomb Squad" on the back and keep saying " I know it is somewhere around here" or "I hope it don't go off before I find it."
