On my 2500 anything I get at 4.5 or above and size B gets dug, especially when working areas for coins or jewelery. In relic areas if it's a 1 or 1.5 and size A or B, I'm pretty sure it's a nail so pass.

All I know is on my GTI-2500, in coins or zero mode a 3 or 3.5 A is a 22 caliber rifle casing. I found this out the hard way a few weeks ago.

One thing I don't understand is an object will scan a 6.5 or 7 in coins or zero mode, but scan 9.5 in all metal. I know it has something to do with the conductivity of the metal.

Another thing I asked about and Uncle Willy explained is if I scan an item slowly, it shows 6.5 or 7, but the same object whipped from side to side real fast shows a 4 or 4.5. Uncle Willy said this was due to the fact that scanning at a faster swing is more accurate and shows more deeply than scanning slowly. My GTI-2500 is just like a motorcycle, just when I think I got things figured out, it throws me on the pavement and drags my rear end until it's sore.

Another thing I have found is in zero mode, I can scan a lot more faster and more accurate than in coins mode. I was scanning in zero mode and got two distinct tones within about an inch or two of each other. It showed a 4 on the GTA and when I dug down, I found some metal object/trash, but decided to run my propointer over the hole and lo and behold I found a 1968 dime.
So, I always run my propointer back over the hole after finding just one target. I am getting better at this, but still don't get out enough to stop getting confused.

I found a 1956 D penney and another penny from another date and tried to clean them and the dime I found with Worcestershire sauce and it really messed them up. Soap and water only from now on for me. I put the dime in a separate medicine bottle from the pennies, but they were really eat up by the sauce and rough to the touch.

One should always check the hole a couple of times. I've found many coins left behind by hunters who didn't scan the hole again after retrieving the first target. Found five quarters in one hole that a guy left behind.

One should always recheck everything with a GTI since their ID is so sensitive and critical and can change with the slightest variation in scanning. Many quarters will at first ID as pennes until you jockey the coil around a bit and get it correctly centered. Remember, that center receiver coil is only about two inches in diameter and leaves no room whatsoever for sloppy centering.
