A new source of EMI..........hearing aids

Larry (IL)

Well-known member
Details are scratchy at this point, but a friend of mine was helping a new V3 user and every time he got close to his friends V3, it went ballistic. He figured out it had to be his new hearing aids was causing interference with the V3. I don't know if this is brand or type specific, we didn't have that long to explorer the possibilities.

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

WOW..That is strange. I wouldn't think the H/aid could transmit that much.

Not saying it couldn't but?????? That said, I wear a high quality pair of behind the ear with a tube looping to the ear canal, they are the larger kind and are the most powerful. Never had a problem with My Vision (yes one of the early models). I can run the Rx at 15 in a lot of places. I don't use the head phones usually, to much trouble taking the hearing aids out because of feed back so just blast the speaker and rely on the screen a lot. Now my Pistol Probe can and does cause EMI when I'm pinpointing with that. I'm retired and worked in computers, and electronics my whole life so I understand and can relate to EMI and any thing is possible.

Was the interference with the wireless headphones or with out them? They are just one more layer of EMI possible problems, meaning you might not be getting any EMI at the metal detector but from the metal detector to the wireless headset you might get EMI.

I found the wireless headphones the root of all my EMI issues. using standard wired phones now and have no EMI issues since !!!!

Hi there Larry.

Hearing aid interfering with V3.....?

Could it possibly be a mis-understanding?

Rather the V3 interfering with the hearing aid????

If indeed the aid is the source of the co-interference, then I can only imagine that the device may possibly have a 'voltage converter' running at a fundamental/harmonic frequency comparable to the V3's pass-band.

As an experiment, try wrapping the 'aid' in several thicknesses of cooking foil.....or pop it into a tin with a metal lid. That should reduce any EMI from the hearing aid, just to prove the point.

Hearing aids and headphones make the most sense to me. Maybe Roy can try that out with his own V3 combo.

The hearing aids that set the v off are SIEMENS MOTION. This hearing aid has a remote control that allows me to turn the volume up or down and it also has five programs in it that i can change with the remote. I wasn't using the remote control but every time I got near him it caused an interference and when I turned them off all that went away. I talked to whites yesterday and Steve said he had also heard of this. If I want to use the wireless head phones I will leave the hearing aids in the car or go to my Sun-ray gold

Thanks Roy, I would have to think that in the future if one has an EMI possibility, it might not be with the V3, but it could be with the headphones.
